Quite some time has passed since I re-organized my recipes. I wanted to give an update on how my new organization method is working.
In case you missed my first post, you can read it here: How I Organize My Found Recipes.
I did the re-organizing of my recipes in January, then blogged about it in February. I have now been using the new system for 3.5 months.
I am really enjoying how it is working for me. As I said in the original post, I really wanted to try at least one new recipe per week this year. The re-organization of my recipes is really helping keep me on track with that goal. I haven’t made it every week, but since I re-organized, I have tried something new almost every week, and in my opinion making it most weeks is doing great! Much better than before the re-organization…I wasn’t making new things at all.
It has made it so simple to find a new recipe and try it. It has become part of my weekly routine for planning our meals. I get out my new recipes folder and pick something I want to try. Then I add in all the other things for the week.
The Brown file are my tried and true recipes. The pink file contains the new recipes I want to try. |
It has also made it easy for me to know what to do with new recipes when I get them. I no longer feel a sense of despair that this looks really good, but I’ll probably never get around to trying it. I feel excited when I find a new recipe and put it in my pink file folder!
The best part is that it has been fun and mostly yummy to do! Who doesn’t love a project that has fun and yummy results! If you are a regular reader of my blog, you have benefited as well. The Tunnel of Fudge Cake blog post was a new recipe that I had wanted to try since Oct./ Nov. 2007. Yep, I had that magazine since 2007 and never got around to trying the recipe. Finally 4.5 years later, 1 recipe re-organization, and 2 blog posts later….we all benefit!
Here are just a few of the things we have tried in the last 3.5 months, with a few mouthwatering pictures!
I know there are more things we have tried, but that is all that is on my list (I tried to keep track for a short time) and all that comes to my mind at the moment.
My verdict is that this new recipe organization is simple, easy to maintain, and works for me!
Let me know if you try it and your results.
It has been! It has made running necessary in order to keep the weight off I lost.
This seems a lot easier than what I do! I cut out all the recipes I find and paste them into a sketching notebook. If I try a recipe or want to try it soon, it gets written on a note card and goes into my cute Vera Bradly recipe box. That’s probably why I keep it old school- it’s so cute! I may have to try this for sorting recipes before I try them- much more organized! insidemypresent.blogspot.com
Thanks! It has been working really well for me. Thanks for stopping by!
An accordian file makes so much sense to organize recipes! I am currently using a binder with sheet protector pockets to sort the different types of found recipes but the frustrating part is not being able to flip through them easily. Glad you found a system that worked for you!

Yes, I have seen many that use the top loading sheet protectors to organize recipes in a binder. It just always seemed to messy and/or frustrating to me. I suppose my system looks messy to some as well. That’s why there are many systems….different personalities like different things. Makes the world a happy colorful place! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
It all looks delicious!
What a smart way to organize your recipes. I feel like mine need some reorganization every so often. Thanks for sharing this at Must Try Monday.
