Elephant Head Snack

I teach a class for our homeschool co-op. This past week in my class (which is a Pre-K, K, 1st grade class) we were learning about animals and habitats in Asia.

I like to have some kind of craft or activity for this age group as it makes it more interactive and therefore more fun, which in turn holds their attention better.

Since we were in Asia, we learned about Yaks, Panda bears and Asian Elephants as well as some about the habitats.

We then made a yummy and cute snack to go along with what we learned.

They turned out so cute and were so easy to make, I thought I would share them here for others to enjoy.

You will need:

  • 2 biscuits per person
  • cinnamon sugar
  • raisins
  • bench scraper or knife (or some other tool to cut your biscuits)
  • pan for baking
1. Start with 2 biscuits. I found these small biscuits that came in a 4 pack for $1.79. I had 40 biscuits! That blew my little eco/natural mind. I normally buy natural biscuits in a can – they are $3 for 1 can of 6. (Thanks for the tip Christyl!) Anyway, apparently there are super cheap biscuits out there and when trying to stretch my teeny tiny budget for this class, I do what I gotta do.

2. Cut across one of the biscuits like you see in the picture. Don’t cut in the center of the biscuit.

3. Cut the other side of the biscuit leaving a strip in the center.

4. Add the two round pieces to the sides of the whole biscuit – to make the ears.

5. Add the straight piece to the whole biscuit – to make the trunk of the elephant.

6. Sprinkle your elephant head with cinnamon sugar.

7. Add 2 raisins for your elephant’s eyes.

8. Bake them according to the directions on the package of biscuits.

Top: The whole herd  Below: 1 cute and delicious elephant.

9. Eat and enjoy! All the kids in my class enjoyed them. My little pumpkin had a few thoughts before eating her elephant. Since they are one of her favorite animals and so cute, she wasn’t sure she wanted to eat hers. She did and declared it yummy. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!
