Ever have one of those days?
This week I was working on making a card as well as some herbed breadsticks. Both things I wanted to share with you. Boy did it not work out like I wanted it to.
I write this blog as an outlet, as fun. It is one of the things that is just for me. A bit like my running. It is an outlet, hobby, fun, whatever label makes sense for you. It takes several of my ‘likes’ and puts them together in a fun platform for me. I like photography. I like scrapbooking. I like writing. This blog combines those three things together for me. Plus it has been fun seeing what posts you like, reading comments, watching my stats(of course…I am a numbers nerd), even making a small amount of money. I have also really enjoyed reading blogs of so many. They are full of amazing ideas, talented people and it is a great escape.
This week my fun blog turned frustrating. I was so excited to have 2 ideas to share with you however today, I don’t have them ready for you. Why? It was so frustrating. I made the card and the breadsticks just fine, I just couldn’t for the life of me get a decent picture. I had lamps with extension cords, every light on in my house, tried the afternoon natural like streaming in the front windows….NOTHING would work. Uuuuggghhh! I couldn’t get a decent shot! Yes, there were a few inappropriate words uttered but my children are used to that from me. I really try to improve in this area and I really have, but I still have a ways to go. Anyway…off topic. Now I realize this was just one, well really two, blog posts, and that for those who have been blogging for a long time, these things just happen. I am sure I will have other frustrating days. It won’t scare me off. I have learned so much about blogging and am enjoying it. In the spirit of keeping it real, since this is “The Real Thing with the Coake Family,” here are a couple of the pictures I just don’t like.
The Card, not finished, in the afternoon sunlight. Can you find the tree branch shadow? Blech…need better pictures please! |
Herbed Breadsticks. They sure don’t look appetizing in this awful light. Thank goodness I made plenty and can try again another day! |
Rather than keep going for the day in frustration, I stopped. I will bring you those posts another day.
For today, I thought I would show you some fun pictures from our Easter egg dyeing last weekend…those I did get some great shots from!
Enjoy!
We got our egg dyeing kit free from Build-A-Bear this year. The colors were the best colors we have had in a really long time, maybe ever. Have you ever seen such a bright red? We loved them and as usual, we had a lot of fun dyeing eggs together as a family.
Oh, and in case you are wondering…no those are not all hard boiled eggs. So, don’t wonder about what the heck I am making with all those. We dye our eggs raw every year. Works great! Yes, we lose a few each year, but no big deal. We just enjoying dyeing more eggs than we could or would ever eat hard boiled.
Works for us!
Above: The crew having fun dyeing eggs.
Below: My masterpiece – a 6 color egg!
Love the picture at the top. The sweet little hand holding the egg and the drip of dye just about to fall! Now that is the kind of photography I prefer to those lousy pictures at the beginning of the post.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day! I’ll be back with my original post ideas sometime in the future.
Thanks…it is always fun to us!
We used our build a bear kit too…LOVING the rainbow egg. As I am reading your post I’m hitting myself in the head..using raw eggs..brilliant…since I just threw away 3 dozen hard boiled eggs nobody wanted to eat!!!
Did your kit have the same vibrant colors? LOL about the raw eggs, some people freak out that I do it that way. I probably should have put a disclaimer on that idea…;-) but you know how I hate to waste things and how I stress over staying on budget! Thanks for stopping by and commenting…made me smile to see you had left a comment! 🙂
Beautiful eggs and pictures. We hard boil dozens of eggs to decorate, but none of ours ever look that good. You’ll have to give me a little hint how to do the stripes. 🙂
Loving the eggs! So colorful and it looks like your kids had a great time with decorating them:)
I’ve only ever eaten herbed bread sticks in dark, romantic Italian restaurants…so it looks about right to me. 🙂
Just keep thinking – you’ve provided “atmosphere”.
Oh! and I found you on Homeshool Mother’s Journal
The stripes are easy. For 2 colors, just dip 1/2 of your egg in 1 color. Then dip the white half in another color. To get 3 colors the color in the center is the combination of the 2 colors (so they overlap). Hope that helps!
Thanks! We did, we always have fun with dyeing eggs!
Loving that rainbow-colored egg! Beautiful! Our eggs scaled something awful this year, so I’m especially impressed. Switching dye brands next year, and hoping for your results!
What beautiful eggs!! Eager to see your recipe filing system.
Such a fun blog. Never thought about coloring raw eggs because I thought they would break. Might be trying that next Easter!! We are so glad that you linked up to our “Strut Your Stuff Saturday.” We hope you’ll be back soon! -The Sisters
Thanks so much! Sorry your eggs didn’t work out this year…must have been frustrating. Boo! Hope next year is better for you.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! The eggs do break sometimes, but I know that going into it so it doesn’t bother me too much. That being said, there are plenty of “Be careful with the eggs!” said during the process. 😉 Thanks for hosting the link party!
I ALWAYS have problems with pictures. I’m afraid I just use them anyway. The eggs turned out beautifully!
Yeah, I enjoy photography and seem to keep trying so I can learn and improve, but this time nothing was helping that effort. Frustrating! Thanks about the eggs, I was amazed with how beautiful they turned out.
Looks like great fun! Thanks for letting us take a little peek into your family life!
