Really Cute Lanterns

My sweet little Pumpkin recently had a birthday. She turned 5 years old! We celebrated in style for her birthday party. She decided she would really like a Rapunzel/Tangled themed party this year. So, it was my turn to search the internet for cute ideas and put together a fun party for a group of 5 year olds.

In my searching, I discovered many great ideas, and I will show you those below and detail some further on another day. However, I want to just put in a quick plug for my new favorite website. If you are not familiar with pinterest…you need to be. https://pinterest.com/  It is a fantastic site that allows you to ‘pin’ sites that you find to your boards. Then you can find all those cute ideas or pages you wanted to come back to later for one reason or another. You can easily see them in picture form. It saves you from having to put them all in your favorites and having a mile long favorites list. Also, you can organize your pins by categories. You can also search other people’s board for ideas. I love the site and found it soo very helpful in planning this party.

Back to the party, the first thing I needed to do was find some kind of cute invitation. I couldn’t find any Rapunzel invitations locally and I just didn’t want to pay shipping for invitations. So, I found these invites online at Super Mom Moments – Rapunzel Invitation

They are so cute.

I made my almost the same(I’m just not going to post mine for privacy sake). I just modified them to use a punch I had for the tower window rather than purchase another new punch. The bonus to these super cute invitations is that they were super inexpensive to make. I think each invitations cost about 25 cents each. I was able to make 2 invitations out of 1 sheet of paper ($0.19) and 2 out of 1 package of embroidery thread ($0.25). Then it was just the ink and a small bit of purple ribbon that whole spool cost $0.50 and I only used a tiny portion of it. LOVE that…so cute and so reasonable!
For the party, as my BFF says, I got on a crafters high. I totally bit off more than I should have with all the projects and things to get ready. I never would have made it without Mr T.3 and all of his help. It was fun and I would do it again. Doing a bunch of projects helped me stretch my tiny budget (even though I did go over a bit…boo!).
The party started with coloring sheets on the table for the girls to do as they arrived. I found them at this site: Tangled Coloring Sheets
After that, we gave each girl 2 sugar cookies that  Mr T.3 had baked. We found a cookie cutter that said it was a daisy, but sure looked like it would work as a sun.

Fox Run Sun Cookie Cutter
This one, on Amazon, is way better than the one we found, but I refuse to pay shipping for things and I didn’t need anything else to get to the free shipping.

We let the girls spread the frosting on and then they got to sprinkle to their hearts content. They really enjoyed this activity and loved that they got to take their cookies home. We put their 2 cookies into little treat bags and sent them home with them rather than having them eat them at the party (since there would be cake). Here are a couple of the cookies that were made:

I had them use some plastic containers we had to help contain the sprinkle mess. I really thought that they wouldn’t follow this request to put the cookie in the container and sprinkle in the container, but they did and they did great with it!

After that it was time to do our tower bean bag toss. I got this idea and the cookie idea from this site: Super Mom Moment – Tangle Party Games. I made bean bags and Mr T.3 and I collaborated on making our tower.
The bean bags were modified from the directions on this site: Bean Bags. Once again, I found a sale on fabric at Hobby Lobby, so it made these reasonable to make. I also know I am going to need them for our P.E. curriculum as well as some other school activities, so it made sense to make them.
This is our own original creation! I don’t get to say that often…so Ooohhs and Aaaahhs would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
Me and all those cute girls. I am holding the tower still while the girls throw bean bags.
The tower was hung up to the top of the door frame with a ‘hidden’ nail and string.
The girls had so much fun throwing bean bags through the tower ‘windows.’ They were each given three bean bags. Once they got one through, they got to go to get their prize. Which was to be turned into Rapunzel, since they had gotten into her tower.
I had made all these braids and set up a ‘station’ for doing their hair. I made a big deal out of that once I put the braid in their hair they were now Rapunzel. (I did use those clear elastic bands in each girls hair to help hold the little tiara in place). I got this idea from this site: Rapunzel Tiara Braids.
Pumpkin, now Rapunzel!
All those cute Rapunzel’s!
The girls LOVED being Rapunzel. Though most no one kept their braids in their hair for long, which seemed about right to me, at least for how long clips last in hair at our house. 😉 They were just added to their favor bags once they took them out.
Then it was time to make one last craft. We made these Pascal Party Blowers. The kids liked them and thought they were really neat. I will say that they were harder to put together than I thought they would be. A glue stick was not strong enough glue to get the 2 foam pieces to stay together, but liquid glue seemed like it was going to take forever to set up so they would stay together. So, Mr T.3 got out the stapler, which of course, I was completely opposed to at first because I thought it would look really bad. While it didn’t look as cute, it didn’t seem like the kids cared. I think they just wanted their craft put together.
After the final craft, it was time for cake and then presents. I had scoured the internet for Rapunzel cake ideas that I thought I could do. There were plenty of ideas, most of which intimidated me. I can make cake and I have decorated some really cute ones in my day, but I am no Cake Boss or Ace of Cakes. I finally settled on this cake: Rapunzel Tower Cake
This is not my cake, but the cake from the site linked above.
I needed a special pan to make this cake. I needed a 6″ round pan. Thank goodness, Michael’s just happened to have a 50% off sale on all baking items! Only $3 for the pan I needed. I didn’t read the directions well enough before I got going on the cake, so mine came out a bit shorter than the one in the picture, I didn’t realize I needed a 5th layer. I only had 4. Anyway, I still think mine came out respectable and more importantly, Pumpkin loved it!
I braided the hair to help contain it and so it
wouldn’t end up on the cake, because that would be yucky!
I will blog another blog about all the decorations we made and the favor bags I made as well as a pretty craft I made that went in the favor bags for all the princesses. So stay tuned for that…coming soon!
Yummy and Pretty, too!

Your little Pumpkin is a cutie pie.  It looks like she had an amazing birthday.  And ooh and ahh about your tower game!  Great job.  🙂  My little girl just turned six this month.  My other little girl absolutely adoooooooores Rapunzel.  She is 1 and would watch it every day if I let her.  It may be my all time favorite Disney movie!

Thanks so much. I don’t feel all that creative, but I am good at copying or modifying things I find other places! 😉

Thanks so much and thanks for the ooohhh and aaahhh! I very rarely get to say something was my own creation so I’ll take the oohh and aahhh when I do and thanks for the comment about our blog name. I wonder sometimes if people ‘get it’ or not…so nice to know at least 1 person got it!
