Real Cute Dinner

Pumpkin chose a meal to cook for our family this week. It turned out so cute, I thought it would be fun to share with you all.

The recipe came from this cookbook(affiliate link).

We have tried a few recipes from this cookbook already and thus far we have really liked them. I am a little picky when it comes to cookbooks and kid’s cookbooks in particular, but seeing as how I couldn’t cook without a cookbook, I keep trying to find good ones. I don’t like cookbooks that rely on all cans and processed crap, which is what a lot of kids’ cookbooks seem to use. When I find a cookbook that uses real food, I am apt to buy it and try it out. This one was a gift given to us by my mom.

Anyway, Pumpkin choose that we would have Little Squirt Pancakes (which are on page 10) and Very Berry Smoothies (p. 64) for dinner. After a little searching and finally finding squirt bottles, at the dreaded Wal-Mart, we were ready to make dinner.

We mixed up the pancakes in this cookbook, but I would think you could mix up your favorite recipe. You will probably need to add a little extra milk or water to thin the recipe out just a little bit.

Then you just need to fill up the squirt bottle. I cut off a small part of the tip of the bottle. You can sort of see that in this picture(the yellow bottle was not cut, the red was):
Then it was on to making the cute shapes, which since this was Pumpkin’s meal to make, she told me what letters and shapes to make while I made them(she is 4, so no hot stove for her).
Leave yourself a little room for the puffing up factor of the pancakes with your drawings.
Attempting to make bows. I thought they were completely unsuccessful, but my girls thought they were great!
I found it generally easier to make the outline of the shape first…
Then fill in the center.
First pumpkin had me draw out all the letters in everyone’s names and a heart for each person.
You can see the glass filled with the yummy smoothie as well in these pictures.
The smoothie was easy and healthy. It was just 2 kinds of fruit with vanilla yogurt, milk and vanilla extract.
Now you can see my super old dishes, I bought them almost 20 years ago now(which makes me feel old to admit that!). IMO the dishes are out of date(I really want a square set of dishes but can’t ever seem to find a set that is just what I want), but we haven’t replaced them…slightly embarrassed about that, but not quite enough to not blog this cute dinner.
After everyone’s names were spelled out (I’m not showing the girls’ names as we used their real names), we moved on to other shapes. We made flowers, circles, hearts, stick people, gingerbread boys, and Mickey Mouse ears. Everyone thought this was a super fun dinner. I have a feeling it will be what Snowflake picks for her dinner next week. (They each have the chance to cook 1 dinner per week with an adult.)
If you decide you want to try this cookbook, I think you will like it. We sure had a fun dinner tonight and have enjoyed our other dinners like: Pizza, Texas Straw Hats, Crispy Chicken Bites, Easy as Pie Spaghetti Bake, Baked Mac & Cheese, to name a few.
Another favorite dinner of our is our Super Stuffed Tortillas and don’t forget to keep your recipes organized. Here’s how I keep mine organized.

More to Enjoy! 😍
