Over the last week or so I’ve been showing you pieces of our Christmas table decorations as I’ve been getting them ready. Today I’ve got the finished table! Yay! Perfect for some Christmas decorating ideas for you.

Back in September, my girls and I sat down and brainstormed ideas for our Christmas table decorations. In theory we brainstormed back then to give me plenty of time to get everything pulled together. In reality, I still waited until the last minute! We started with a few ideas and refined and combined until we came up with what you see above. Let me show you the other components as well as some details. I hope it will help give you some ideas for your own Christmas decorating ideas.

I started with the centerpiece. It includes the glitter candles I made as well as the gingerbread house I made. I added some sparkly silver trees I found at Pier 1 and a couple of feather boas from the kids section at Michael’s that I used in our centerpiece last year. I added the feather boas last as a filler. Simply placing them in and around to give the illusion of snow in a way that our cat wouldn’t eat. 🙂
Next up, I added the reversible Christmas placemats I made. I tried them on both sides and decided on the side that I like best, but of course either side looks fine.

When you add your table decorations to your table, vary the height of things to give additional visual interest. Also try to place odd numbers of things together. It will look more pleasing to the eye that way.

While I didn’t follow the odd rule exactly on each side of the centerpiece, I at least have three trees and five candles total, so overall it works. After getting things on the table where I thought they looked good, I added our Christmas dishes to finish the look.

The gingerbread house is my favorite part of the centerpiece. I put it on a small pedestal
to give it some height and make it stand out a little more. Pedestals are great for that purpose…making something stand out a bit more.

The sparkly trees were a very reasonable find at Pier 1 Imports. (Here is a similar one I found on Amazon.) I love this shot peering through the trees at the Christmas tree in the gingerbread house. The ‘lights’ on the house really stand out, too! Details really can make a difference with your Christmas decorating ideas.

On this side of the centerpiece, you can see the idea of using odd numbers of things and how well it works. Since we have had so many sparkly, glittery crafts this year, it felt only fitting for the last table decorations of the year to be glitter candles ans sparkly trees.

All in all, we love the different elements and how the table came together.

I’m loving this tradition my girls and I have started of coming up with our Christmas table decorations together. It has been fun to hear what they want and then to find creative and inexpensive ways to pull it together. No flying Santa this year like last year, but a cute gingerbread house along with some sparkle, glitter and reversible placemats. Works for me!

Do you have your Christmas decorations up? What will you do for your Christmas table?

What an adorable centerpiece! I can’t believe you crafted so much of it yourself. Well…I can believe it ’cause you are a rock star DIY’er. Let’s just say I’m impressed! Knowing your kiddos played such a big role makes it all the merrier.

Thank you Lisa! Well, I doubt that I am a rock star DIY’er…what I really am is cheap! 😉 It costs so much less to make it myself, it works better for my budget. My girls are really enjoying seeing the table all done and pretty! I hope you are doing well.

Looks great! I never make my table up for the holidays and always envy the ones who do. I like to sew so perhaps some Christmas placemats would be a great place to start!

Thanks! If you do start with Christmas placemats, they are easy to make and totally washable (as long as you pick a washable fabric). Sounds like a great place to start…then you won’t have to envy others. 😉
      Take care,

Thanks so much, Maria! I had so much fun making the gingerbread house (well except for the 7 coats of paint)! 😉
