Mother’s Day Card

First things first with this post, if you are my Mom or my Mother-in-Law…close this post now, please?! Your ‘real’ version of this post is in the mail on its way to you. Wait for it, then you can come back if you so desire. Thanks! XOXO

OK, now for those of you who aren’t my Mom or Mother-in-Law, I have a cute card I made for the Mother’s in my life. You can make a similar card as well.

Before we get to the specifics of the card, I want to say a heartfelt

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

to you if you are a Mother! In my 10+ years as a Mom, I have learned that it is one of the hardest jobs on the planet. It is also one of the best jobs on the planet. I have so much respect for the job you all do. So, to all my Mommy friends and my new bloggy Mommy friends…HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! I hope your family treat you like the queen that you are!

Now on to the card. I rarely can claim that I came up with my own idea, but for this card, I actually came up with my own idea! Yay! Inspiration hit me one morning(in my thinking spot, AKA as the shower-my least interrupted space) and I actually remembered the inspiration by the time I actually had time to make the cards. Wow! Those 2 things almost never occur together.

Since I had inspiration AND remembered it, I gathered my supplies. Best not to waste this rare occurrence!

There were quite a few supplies/tools this time. You can see what I used above as well as that I had already cut out all the elements needed to make the card in this picture.

Most of the tools I used are from Creative Memories since I use the majority of their products for my traditional scrapbooks and therefore they are what I have on hand. I won’t label them all, but if you can’t figure out what I used for a certain part of the card, just send me an email and I will be happy to answer your questions. To email me, just click on the envelope icon under the “Follow Me~” header near the top right of this blog page.

I cut the blue background paper close to the size of the card I planned to use. I wanted to use blue to mimic the blue sky and the paper so I could hide the sewing and such once it adhered to the card.
I started, as I often do, without thinking the whole thing through. I tacked the flowers and stems in place and started to sew. I realized that this was going to be the hard way to do things as the other flowers and such were going to be in the way as I tried to sew. Since I was making two of these, I tried another version with the second card, which worked much better.

I placed the flowers and stems out where I thought I wanted them to go. Then tacked down the stems and removed the flowers. I just used a tiny dab of liquid adhesive (the kind I would use in a scrapbook) to tack them down.

I used a fun new fancy stitch on my sewing machine…might as well use it, right?! I think it looks so cute. After that, I tacked the small little flowers in place. Then sewed them down using a different stitch.

Finally, I tacked the large flowers in place and sewed them. I wanted to add a little dimension to the flowers, so I crinkled them up on the edges.

If you haven’t ever sewn on paper before, not only is it possible, it is FUN! At least to me. It doesn’t hurt the machine at all, though I suppose it might dull the needle more quickly, I am not certain of that. I think sewing on paper is such a fun touch to add to a card. I’ve never done it on a scrapbook page, though I am sure it would be really cute there too.

I adhered the blue paper with the flowers to the front of my card. Then I added the cute picket fence I cut with my CM border maker…seriously LOVE this tool! I used foam squares to adhere the picket fence to give it a little height and make it stand out from the card(which is a little hard to tell in these pictures).

Finally, I stamped “Happy Mother’s Day” on the inside of the card and Voila….Mother’s Day card ready for our 2 Mom’s!

Happy Mother’s Day to you!

More to Enjoy! 😍

So cute!  I love the look of sewing on paper.  And thank you for showing the inside too!  It drives me crazy when people don’t show the inside of their card creations.  If you’re looking for another place to share your paper crafts, check out Etcetorize (https://etcetorize.blogspot.com).  Party starts later tonight, hope to see you there~

Love, love, love the stitching- I  need to practice my own stitching on cards….I can do it, just not very straight yet 😉

I’m sure you do better than you think you do. I swear I can’t sew straight to save my life, but it turns out to look OK. Good luck!
