I told you last week I would be back to show you the rest of my laundry room makeover. I’m not sure we should go so far as calling it a makeover. It is more some laundry room ideas for storage and organization as well as adding a little pretty to my laundry room.

I’ll start by spoiling the surprise and showing you the after. Doesn’t it look so pretty and cheery? After I cleaned the wire shelves last week, I wanted to add something pretty to make my laundry room a little more pretty and more cheery. It wasn’t so cheery.
It was fine and functional and organized. At least it was organized to me. I knew exactly where things went and had spots for all the things we use. But I knew, from all the pretty pictures on Pinterest and the blogs I read, that I could add a little something else. I spent some time looking for inexpensive baskets with color because I really wanted some color.
Now just in case you’ve noticed, yes those are a few of my race medals hanging in the laundry room. I’m a runner and those are finisher medals. I haven’t figured out another way to display them yet, so I’m super classy and hang them in the laundry room. Another project for another day.
I found the flower baskets at Five Below. I knew when I saw them that they were perfect for what I wanted. I also knew that a whole room of the flowers would be too much. I looked high and low for something that I liked to add with them. I finally ended up with these white weave baskets from Target. I have long loved these bins. They were a little bit more than I ideally wanted to spend. I actually started pricing only the white weave baskets and it was going to be too much money. So, in the end by adding the more inexpensive baskets from Five Below, I was able to have the white that I wanted, the color and fun that I wanted and bring the price down to a level that worked for me. Love it when a win/win solution happens!
While everyone in my family knows what towels and rags go where, I decided to add labels because they are fun and add more color. To me, they also look like I had a professional organizer come by. 😉 I tied the tags to the white weave bins with baker’s twine.
Next to the dish towels and cloths, I have my laundry supplies and laundry detergent. Now my laundry detergent in its cute bin looks like it fits in the laundry room.
Speaking of my laundry detergent. Quite a while ago, I wrote about making my own Fast and Easy Homemade Laundry Detergent. When I wrote the post, I had no idea how long the detergent would last. I was guessing 6 months. It ended up lasting 7 months. 7 months of detergent, doing 1 load per day, for $12!!! Can’t beat that!
For the flower baskets, I used a clothes pin to attach the labels.
On the other side of the shelf, I have all our rags. I have them divided up by size. We have large rags (old sheets and towels), medium rags (old dish towels), and small rags (old dish cloths and washcloths). We also have our dust cloths here. All the things for cleaning together on one side, easy for anyone to reach what they need. I also keep our odd recycled items, things like batteries and printer cartridges, in here until they are ready or enough to go to be recycled.
If only cleaning were as fun and cute as these bins and baskets make it seem. lol!
I love the pop of color both the baskets and tags add to the room. The details of the clothespins and baker’s twine are fun to me as well.
I’m so happy with the changes I made to the laundry room! It just makes it so nice to go in there now….not fun per say as I still don’t like laundry, but at least I enjoy the view now.
Now if my husband would only take the hints I have been giving forever and paint the laundry room as a present for me. This kids have gotten the hints, but not Mr. T. In his defense, I think he has gotten the hint that I want him to paint the laundry room, he just doesn’t want to. I can’t blame him. I don’t want to do it either, it seems like a huge pain. That is why I keep asking for him to do it. 😉 Someday, someday!
Have you ever painted a laundry room? Is it a total pain? Our laundry room is small and also has a huge water heater(i.e. we can’t open the door to the laundry room all the way because of the water heater) in it that seems like it will be a challenge to paint around. What do you think?
More Organizing Fun for You:
This looks so bright and cheerful. Definitely would make me enjoy doing laundry a bit more (a wee bit, LOL). 🙂
Thank you, Lisa! Yes it does make it a wee bit more enjoyable…but only a wee bit. 😉

Looks great! My laundry room is in the utility closet that is unfinished in the basement. It will never be pretty! My hubby is bugging me to create a way to display his medals. I have it in my brain…just haven’t had the time to get the supplies and make it.
Boo that you can’t pretty up your laundry room. If you do make the way to display the medals, I would love to see it.

Thanks for a little inspiration! I have been meaning to make over/organize my laundry room for a while. Sometimes its hard to figure out what to put all your “not so pretty” wash rags in. But this helped! Thanks for posting it on Pinworthy Projects! (thats where i found ya)

Your welcome! I’m so glad my little mini makeover could give you some ideas. I think that is half that battle. At least it is for me most of the time, though Pinterest sure cures that pretty well. 🙂

that looks great and the laundry room is as good a place as any to keep your race medals!
Thanks, Dara! At least by keeping them in the laundry room I see them daily and remind myself of the current goal…which right now is my 10k tomorrow morning. This race doesn’t give out medals though…boo!
Take care,
