I love easy crafts how about you? That is not to say I don’t love some challenging crafts or DIY projects, but sometimes it is just fun to create something really pretty in just a few minutes. Especially this time of year.

Love easy Crafts that are also gorgeous! I need to make these DIY Epsom salt candle holders for my winter or Christmas home decor.

According to Pinterest, I’m kind of odd….did you know that? Lol! I decorate for Christmas. Then after I take down the Christmas decorations, I decorate my house with winter decorations. I know lots of people use wintery types of decorations for Christmas, but I like to do that in January and then go to Valentine’s decorations for the month of February. Weird…apparently…according to the traffic I get from Pinterest.

Anyway, knowing that lots of you like to use this type of decor for your Christmas decorations, I decided to make these now and save them for my winter decorations.

If you have followed my blog for a long time, you may remember the winter centerpiece I showed you a few years ago that used the wine bottle craft. It was so pretty, but after a few years of being stored in a box, the Epsom salts weren’t looking so good. Last year, they got used for the last time.

This year, I decided I wanted to try something a little different…and I LOVE the results.

Supplies:

  • Empty, clean glass jars (I used salsa jars)
  • White craft paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Paintbrush
  • Epsom Salt(affiliate link)

I’ve saved salsa jars for a few months, knowing I really wanted to make these. Thankfully, we eat a decent amount of salsa. You could use mason jars or baby food jars…use what you have and recycle for this craft.

Start by painting your jars with the white paint. When I made the wine bottle craft, I painted multiple layers of paint to get a more solid background. I also tried several different shades of paint. You can have fun and experiement…especially if you have lots of jars. I decided to just go with white paint this time and I only did one coat of paint. It works fine, though in the full daylight, I totally think a second coat of paint would look better.

Let the paint fully dry. Overnight if you can.

Before you add the Mod Podge, pour your Epsom Salt into a tray. Then add a nice thick layer of Mod Podge (however, my picture is too thick…sometimes photographing and working on a project don’t work well together…lol!).

Roll your jar into the Epsom salts. Cover the entire surface. If needed you can roll over the area two times. Make sure you get the rim of the jar as well.

Let everything dry completely.

Easy, peasy and done! I decided to add some craft paper(affiliate link) down under the candle. I’d like to tell you this is on my table, but the truth is that this is my photography backdrop table. Though, I think in January I will put out the craft paper on the table. I bought a roll for $2 for our Thanksgiving table and we all thought it looked really neat and the kids (and grown-ups) enjoyed coloring on the table.

Some of the Epsom salts on the table were put there because it looks pretty when I photograph, but you also need to know that you will have some that come off as the candles get placed and used. It can be a little messy, but so pretty so who cares. 🙂

I added some fake greens and holly berries. I got the greens at the dollar spot at Target and the berries are a garland from the Target holiday section(affiliate link). I’m not sure if I will have these on my table in January or not. They look pretty for the photography of the craft, so I bought them for that.

Add your candles and the scene is set. I ended up with three jars.

This is such a simple craft with gorgeous results. Love it when those two things come together!
