Have you thought about how you will ring in the New Year? Yes, I know we haven’t celebrated Christmas yet, but I know I’ve been thinking and planning (at least in my head) about what we will do for New Year’s Eve this year. We have had fun celebrating as a family the last few years and we plan to do the same again this year.
I think this year, we are going to add a few other families to our celebration. Our kids are old enough that having friends makes it more fun and they are old enough, I think they can handle staying up to ring in the New Year (as opposed to years past when we have run in the New Year at 10 or 11 pm instead).
Even with adding a few other families to our New Year’s Eve fun, I think we will keep the format similar with our hourly bags. I’m thinking that each family that comes will be in charge of a bag or two. So, they will bring the idea for the activity as well as what little trinket or gifty goes in the bag. We may use some of these New Year’s Eve kits (affiliate link) and our Amazon Prime shipping (affiliate link) to make it even easier and faster. I think it will be fun!
So here are 20 different ideas to help give me and you some inspiration for celebrating New Year’s Eve with your family.
This is my original Family New Year’s Eve post. It has the free printables in it for the clock faces as well as some great ideas of what to do with your family for each hour.
I’ve updated the bags for our family New Year’s Eve celebrations to make them a lot cuter.
Amy, over at One Artsy Mama, used my idea to celebrate New Year’s Eve with her family. She has a bunch of great ideas for what to do for each hour as well.
If you want to spend a few dollars (it is $8.97), this cute New Year’s Eve in a bag party decor pack from The Dating Divas is really cute.
If you need some cute ideas for decorating your party, Giggles Galore has some great ideas as well as tips for a Kid-Friendly New Year’s Eve.
Now when it is time to fill the bags, you will need some ideas. I know I gave you a few in the first couple of posts, but here are a few more ideas for you.
How about some cute New Year’s Eve bingo from Blooming Homestead?
You could easily make these noise makers as a fun activity and then use them to help ring in the New Year.
These noise makers from Giggles Galore are made from paper plates. They would be fun to make together as an activity as well.
Oh my goodness…there are so many fun ideas in this Minute to Win It – Tween Challenge post from Club Chica Circle. They would make fun ideas for games and ideas for the New Year’s bags for sure!
This is a such a cute idea and putting ring pops into one of the bags as a cute trinket or gift is such a great idea. I love the way Bloom Design Online packaged up these. So Cute!
When it comes time for dessert, you can have some fun with these Champagne Cupcakes. I love how easy it was to add the bubbles on top of the cupcakes. I’m sure if you prefer to not have the alcohol in the cupcakes, you could mix up a plain batch of cupcakes and use the idea from Pizzazzerie for the bubbles on top.
How about some fun Sparkling Jello Jigglers? – Such a cute and sparkly idea from Bubble Nature Creations.
Another really cute idea for the trinket or gifty in a bag (such as the midnight bag), would be this adorably packaged confetti from Bloom Design Online…I’m just not sure I want to clean it up, but it is so cute, it may make it into our bags this year.
Now when it comes time to ring in the New Year, everyone needs to have fun making a toast. Start with some pretty glasses because everyone feels special when they have a pretty glass. I made these a few years ago and we have enjoyed using them. They are just inexpensive glasses from IKEA on which I used glass etching cream.
You could also make these adorable glasses with the polka dots from Pizzazzerie. They looked crazy easy to make…gotta love that.
How about some sugared rims on your glasses as well as a Glitter Ball Stir Stick? Another great idea from Bloom Designs Online.
When it is time to toast, you will want something special for everyone. I made these Pink Delight drinks a few years ago for my kids. They are a fun and sweet mocktail, perfect for the kiddos. I just made a grown up version of the Pink Delight drink this year as well, so you can check that one out for the adults.
These Cranberry Lime Mocktails from Simply Designing look fantastic as well.
Another cute idea is this Santa Spritzer from Mad in Crafts.
Lastly, here is another yummy Sparkling Cider Mocktail from Kleinworth and Co.
I hope you and your family have a great time celebrating New Year’s Eve together!

I like how you made non-alcoholic mocktails for the kids so that they’d feel included when it was time to toast. This new years eve, I want to have a great celebration. I want there to be food and drinks and lots of fun all around. Your article should help me to make a great NYE.
