How to Get the Kids to Change the Toilet Paper Roll ~ Without Losing Your Mind

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #CottonelleHoliday  https://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

I was wandering through Target the other day…you know it is one of my ‘Happy Places.’ I was thinking of ways to make the holidays just a bit more simple this year. Things always get so busy and the house is full of guests. Sometimes important things get missed. Which of course led me to think about toilet paper. What you don’t think about toilet paper?

Well, knowing I’m going to have 13 people in my house on Thursday and more to come throughout the holidays, I need to make sure my bathroom is adequately stocked. The biggest problem: the kids!

Do you have this problem in your house? My kids often leave an empty toilet paper roll as a present for the next person…why thank you girls! It is one thing when they do it for just our family, but with a house full of guests, I really don’t want guests using the bathroom and finding an empty roll of toilet paper.

So, while wandering around my happy place, AKA Target, the other day, I came up with part of a great plan to tackle the toilet paper problem this holiday season. I saw that Cottonelle has a triple roll that will fit my standard toilet paper holder. 12 pack Cottonelle Triple roll…that should help solve the problem. Check. Add that to my cart. I added a few other fun holiday items. Some cute headbands for my girls to wear to an upcoming holiday themed race I’m running and such and so on.

Once I got home, I started to stock the bathroom with the new Cottonelle triple roll, but I started thinking, “I need more. I need something to really ensure my girls will change the toilet paper roll when it does actually run out.” That is when I came up with a fun surprise.

Don’t worry, I made some for you too. That way you can have no empty toilet paper rolls at your house, too. I know you want to hug me right now! Yes, I’m cheesy and proud of it! 😉

I made this cute printable, which you can download and use as well. Just print out one sheet for each two rolls you want to turn into a surprise.

You will need one printed rectangle and one plain rectangle per roll because a standard 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper is not long enough to go around the triple roll of toilet paper. Just tape the two together in the center.

Then wrap it around your toilet paper roll and tape it. Your surprise is ready to go. I did 3 of my 12 rolls with a surprise wrapper. I also told my girls we had a new game for changing the toilet paper roll and told them they would have to figure it out, but that there might be something special with the toilet paper.

My secret weapon, the triple roll with a secret surprise…all ready to go. Next, I stocked the cabinet in which we keep the toilet paper. I hid the three with the surprise wrappers in and among the rolls.

We haven’t changed the first roll out yet, but I know I will be getting one of the surprise wrappers along with an empty toilet paper tube. I plan to give them a small little treat in exchange for the tube and wrapper.  I don’t normal do things in exchange for treats, but I figured why not. It is the holidays and if I can get them helping me it is worth it and will make the mundane a little more fun.

I’ve got some holiday help for you as well!

In addition to the printable, so you can create your own surprise wrappers, I’ve got a special coupon for you from Cottonelle and Target. They are while supplies last and good at Target only, so print it out and head to Target soon.

Promotional Offer: Buy Cottonelle Triple Roll 12 pack or larger and get a FREE box of Kleenex (Just click the link to be taken to the coupon)

Whew, now we can spend less time checking the bathroom this holiday! One way to make the holidays a bit more simple…now if only the rest of the holiday’s could be so simple. 🙂postsignature

This is a great idea. I have a 20 yo daughter and a 17 yo son. I’m pretty sure that in all these years I have changed the roll 98% of the time. The other two percent was under forced supervision. ( I semi joke). I cannot understand the aversion. They will even get a roll and set it on the bathtub instead of put it on the roll. I laugh so I don’t cry. Fortunately otherwise they are great kids. Let us know how this experiment goes. Fingers crossed that you have just discovered the cure for this national plague.

Yeah, I don’t think you are alone. I posted about this on my facebook page and between this and the laundry on the floor, most parents agree regardless of the age. Maybe it is when they are on their own they start to care (though I know some never do). Glad yours are good kids otherwise, so are mine, so we can be thankful for that! Take care,
      KC

    That is a cute idea.
I have also solved that problem in my kids bathroom(ages 5, 15, & 17).I left a note in their bathroom that said if I walk into their bathroom to an empty tube on the holder that all of them will lose video game/computer privileges for the day regardless of who actually left it that way. They really like their computers and keep each other in check.

Your idea sounds like a fantastic idea! I love that it gets them doing what they need to do and keeping each other in check. Great suggestion. Thanks!
