I’ve got two new cards to show you today. These are some of my favorite cards I have made to date. I love the colors! I love the baker’s twine I used to add some fun to each card. I got my baker’s twine from Pick Your Plum. If you haven’t signed up for their email, go to their site to sign up. They have a great craft deal each day! Fun stuff!
First let me say that I got the idea for this card from two different places. I got the idea for the color blocking from the Laura Looloo blog. You can see her gorgeous color blocking card and gift bag here. The Baker’s twine flowers are from Homespun with Heart. She has a great tutorial on how to make them. You can read that here.
To make the cards, I followed the directions on Homespun with Heart to make the baker’s twine flowers. I also cut the two rectangles and carefully lined them up on the card. I decided to add my third color in the form of a tag. I cut it out with my Creative Memories tag maker and added a simple dash and dot pattern around the edge of the tag and the rectangles with a black pen.
- To assemble the card, I started with two of the baker’s twine flowers. I adhered them with foam squares. While adhering the pink flower, I added the twine for the tag to help hold the tag in place.
- I then added the blue baker’s twine flower. Again, using it to hold the tag and the tag’s twine in place.
- Finally it was time to add the recipient’s name and tack the tag in place.
I wanted to do something extra on the inside of the card. I printed out Happy Birthday onto some yellow cardstock. I used Learning Curve Dashed for the words and simply added baker’s twine in each color to the left of the wording.
This is one of my favorite cards I have made. I love the colors and the simply beauty of the card.
Not long after I made the first color block and twine card, I needed to make another card for my Mother-in-Law’s birthday. I love this card even more than the first. I don’t have a Cuttlebug or other machine for adding texture, so I do it old school. I use Fiskar’s texture plates and their embossing tool. It just takes some time to add the texture, but sometimes it feels soothing and therapeutic to me to do. This was one of those days. I love they way the added texture looks on the card.
After adding the texture it was just a matter of putting on the baker’s twine bows and lining everything up. You can see I added a Happy Birthday tag with flowers to the front of the card. I got this from some leftovers from a scrapbook kit.
I love the color blocking and the baker’s twine. They turned into really pretty cards. I hope my Sister-In-Law and Mother-In-Law enjoyed receiving them and that they both had great birthdays!
