As I write this it’s 12:15 and we just finished breakfast. Yep, we are definitely on a break and enjoying every minute of it. Of course I have this thought in my mind that keeps telling me how hard next week is going to be. Then I look over at our ‘school area‘ and I get kind of excited to get back to our work.
I am excited because Snowflake will begin a new book and study in her Moving Beyond the Page curriculum. She is using the 8-10 curriculum and will begin reading the book The BFG. (Updated – here is a cute story she wrote from that unit.)
All our literature, English, vocabulary, etc will be based on that book and will correlate with our science and social studies unit, which will be on forces of nature. We will be studying things like, inertia, momentum, friction, gravity, etc. Sounds like fun!
I am also excited because Pumpkin will be making a big move next week as well. She has been working through a book called Peak with Books(affiliate link) for probably the last 1.5 to 2 years. It was our preschool and pre-k work. We have been doing all kinds of learning and activities based on various books and Peak with Books has given me most of the ideas I have used. She will be finishing it up the first 2 days we are back at school. Then she will be moving on to Moving Beyond the Page as well. She will be starting the Moving Beyond the Page 5-7 curriculum. She is ready and excited to be moving up to what ‘big girls’ work on for school. I am excited because I remember doing these lessons with Pumpkin and they were so much fun! I think doing the lessons again with my 2nd child is going to be more fun than the first go around because now I know how much fun the lessons are and I don’t feel the pressure that I did with my first child to make sure she is on track, etc. Nor do I feel that I have no idea what I am doing and things like ‘Will this homeschooling thing work out,’ etc. I suppose I have learned to relax a bit more about knowing that they will learn what they need to learn in due time and that my stressing over it doesn’t help one tiny bit (not that I have fully learned this lesson with my 1st child of course, but I have improved greatly over the last 5 years!). I could also say I sure love this age it is just fun!
You probably won’t hear much from me next week as we will be adjusting back to ‘reality.’
Have a great week!
