“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Brancott Estate Flight Song. I received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
I’m on a mission this Valentine’s Day. I want to do things for my family that make the day special and I don’t want to spend a lot of time or money. It is actually easy to create a special day that doesn’t take a lot of time or money. It just takes a little bit of thought and planning.
I showed you my idea for a fun afternoon snack for Valentine’s Day already. Today, I wanted to come up with a little something fun for Mr. T and I. Most likely we will spend a little time together after the kids go to bed. Since, I mentioned in the healthy snack post that I’m working to take of a few extra pounds, I want to enjoy what I come up with for our adult time, but I also don’t want to over-indulge.
I’ve got some fun and simple ideas that would be easy to give your own spin or to re-create yourself. Let me show you.
I started my quest with some great white wine. I love a good glass of wine at the end of the day. It is even better with a little appetizer, but since I’m trying to lose a few pounds, I needed to be careful with both the wine and the snack.
The Brancott Estate Flight Song wine I selected is a delicious white wine that is actually 20% lower in calories than similar white wines. It has all the great flavor of a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and is natural yet has fewer calories. So rather than having to give up my glass of wine, I will only have to make the choice of my normal glass of wine at 20% fewer calories or a larger glass of wine with my usual number of calories. Tough choice! 😉
To set the mood, I pulled out a pink table runner that I had on hand. I had a couple of the wrappers left that are meant for glasses from when I made the kids their healthy snack. (I gave those to you as a free printable last year.) I decided they would be a quick and easy way to cute up some napkins.
Between the pink table runner and those ‘napkin rings.’ My adult set up looked sufficiently like Valentine’s Day and didn’t cost me an additional penny. Love that!
First I had to make the tough choice between the Brancott Estate Flight Song Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and the Marlborough Pinot Grigio. I selected the Pinot Grigio and set to work figuring out a snack that would pair well and not get me off track with my goal of losing a few pounds.
I had the little brioche toasts on hand from making our healthy snack. I wanted to add something to them. Of course, I had to use what was left of our favorite smoked Gouda(because it is my favorite) and I decided to add some avocado to another toast. Simple and yummy!
Truth be told, that avocado was not ripe enough. I would have loved to mash it a bit and maybe add a little salsa as well, but that wasn’t happening with that avocado. I’ll have to make sure I’m ready with a ripe avocado on Valentine’s day. 😉
In the end, I think I came up with a super simple and perfectly delicious appetizer. The pairing between the brioche with the avocado and cheese and the Brancott Estate Flight Song Marlborough Pinot Grigio works really well. I love that I don’t have to feel guilty about the glass of wine because it is 20% fewer calories, and that I could easily create something special for Valentine’s Day after the kids go to bed. Yes, it is not the traditional chocolate or heavy dessert, but with a goal in mind to lose a few pounds, this appetizer and wine pairing gives me the feeling of something special on a special day and that I didn’t have to sacrifice. Works for me, how about you?

Thanks! Hope you enjoy them. 🙂
I could totally eat this for dinner! I love enjoying wine with appetizers, especially when the wine is lower in calories!
