I’ve been on a roll lately getting things organized and tidied up around our house. I love sharing my organizing tips with you as I love organizing and figuring organizing solutions out. Today, I’m sharing the deep dark secrets of the kitchen cabinet under my sink.
Earlier this year, I removed the cabinet doors and sewed curtains for three of our kitchen cabinets. When I did that, it left me without my door organizers, which I used to hold the foil, plastic wrap, baggies and such and so on. We lived with the big mess in the before picture for most of this year. Now, you can see I figured out a solution for the mess.
This is the mess that we lived with for most of this year. It didn’t really work because it was hard to find what we wanted and we ended up with duplicates of things because we couldn’t tell what we had in the pile of stuff. One of the problems was that the curtains I made were too tight on the rod and really couldn’t be moved to open them and be able to freely access the things in the cabinet.
As I shared with you earlier this week, I solved that problem by changing my pattern and sewing a new set of curtains for our kitchen cabinets.
Next up was to figure out a way to organize the under cabinet space and have easy access to everything.
I picked the Rubbermaid Slide ‘N Stack system(mine is the 11″ basket with the track because that fit my space). I had used this same system in my bathroom in our home in Oregon. It worked really well. At that time I had been able to find it at Lowe’s. This time when I went searching, I couldn’t find it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. So I had to order my through Amazon. No problem there as I order from them all the time. 🙂
The Slide ‘N Stack system has a track underneath that allows you to easily move the basket in and out, I love this feature for cabinets like this because it makes it super easy to get to and see everything in the cabinet. It is also very easy to install. I think it took Mr. T, my husband, about 10 minutes to install.
In the bottom of my basket, I have all our wraps and baggies. I placed the less frequently used items on the bottom with the more frequently used items on the top.
I also ordered an additional basketthat sits on top of the slide ‘n stack. This basket adds additional space and can slide freely along the top of the basket. I keep our sponges, gloves and Bar Keeper’s Friend in this basket. The fact that this basket can slide, once again makes it easy to access things, but it all provides me additional storage that I can put wherever I need. In my case, I’m able to have the basket forward a touch from the back of the basket in order to keep it out of the way of some of the pipes under the sink.
The other under sink cabinets contains our compost bin on one side.
On the other side of this cabinet, I ordered the 5″ basketthat goes with this slide ‘n stack system. It is meant to sit on top of the basket with the track underneath it, just like the small basket that I used in the other cabinet. It does not have a track. However, it was the perfect size to use the space I had on this side of the sink. I can pull the basket halfway out and get what I need or I can pull the basket all the way out if I want.
This basket contains our sponges and various items for doing dishes as well as dishwasher detergent tabs and our fruit/veggie wash.
Isn’t it tons better? I love that I can find everything and that I’m not buying duplicate of things. How do you organize under your sink? There is usually so much stuff under the sink that it can be a challenge.

Great idea. How’d you like to come over and organize my cabinets? Thanks for sharing:-)
Thanks! I actually would probably enjoy coming over to organize your cabinets IF you would just let me do whatever I want…lol! Probably not what you have in mind. ;-}
Take care,
KC
Much better! Everyone loves a little organizing, right?!
Such a nice change! I need something like this for my cabinets!
It is much better! Well, I know people who don’t like it, but I LOVE a little (or a lot) of organizing. Make life just a little easier to me. How about you?
KC
Thanks so much! I hope you are able to figure something out for your cabinets. It always feels nice to get an organization project tackled.
Take care,
KC
I love how it turned out, and, how you used your baskets. I have to organize my baskets because I have so many and do not know how to use them. Ha Ha. What great inspiration. Rhonda
Thanks! That is a funny problem…needing to organize the baskets that are used to organize…hehe! I have one large plastic storage bin that I use to keep any organizing supplies (including plastic bins and baskets) so I know exactly where they are when I am ready to work on an organizing project. It works really well. Saves money, too. Have a great day.
