I love finding just the perfect gift to give someone. How about you? Back at the end of the last school year, I made some teacher appreciation gifts for the teachers at our co-op. I think chalkboard paint ideas are fun and make great gifts. I had fun coming up with a few.

One of my friends and teacher at our co-op is from Ireland. She loves tea and they have regular tea time at their house…that is when they are actually home. I came up with this cute little gift for her. She loved it! Yay!
It was super easy to make and I’ve got a tutorial to show you exactly how I made this chalkboard paint tea pot. You can make your own, or modify my idea for your own idea.

Supplies:
  • Wood tea pot cut out
  • Paint brush
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Stencil
  • Chalk
  • Ribbon
  • Display stand

Your first step is to paint your wood cut out with the chalkboard paint. I painted both sides of my cut out so either side could be used. It also helps the tea pot look cute from either side.

Next use your stencil to add any wording you want on your wood cut out. Did you know you can make your own stencils? I’ve got a tutorial for you on how to make your own stencils.

Once you have let all the paint dry, you need to season your chalkboard. This will allow you to write and erase the board without the words leaving a ghost. To season your chalkboard surface, take a piece of chalk and rub the side of it all over the entire chalkboard surface. Erase this chalk rubbing. Your board is now ready to go! See, I told you this was an easy craft and gift.

I gave my friend the tea pot with a piece of chalk tied to it with a cute ribbon. I also gave her a few different boxes of tea and a little display stand on which to place the tea pot. When I painted the tea pot wood cut out, I used a stencil on one side (which says, “Tea Time:”) and left the other side blank. That way if she didn’t want the “Tea Time:” saying, she still had a pretty side she could use.

Such a simple and inexpensive gift to give. It also was a great gift for my tea loving friend. She was excited and already told me how she planned to use it for their tea time. I love finding gifts I can make for those I care for and I love it when I am able to find something that suits them very well. It makes me happy!

You might remember that I made this Chalkboard veggie crate from another friend and co-op teacher. It was another fun and inexpensive gift to make that fit my friend well.

Do you have fun making/finding just the right gift or do you find it frustrating? What are your favorite chalkboard paint ideas?

I read this before going out for my morning run this morning…put a smile on my face! I’m so glad I could give you an idea or a springboard to know your idea would work. Thanks for letting me know. Oh and BTW – I’ve seen cutting boards done with chalkboard paint and they look sooo cute! The ones I saw were the kind with the handle with the hole in them. They painted them up, put cute ribbon through the hole and used that to hang them…so stinking cute!

I’m pretty sure I bought mine at Michael’s, but this post is a year old and my memory isn’t that great. I also think they were a seasonal item. I hope you can find one! If not, you could always make a tea tray and use a tea pot in the center, either paint one or find scrapbook paper you could cut out and Mod Podge. I have another post with how to make a tray, you could modify it for this idea. https://realcreativerealorganized.com/2014/04/mothers-day-gift-idea.html
      Hope that helps!
