Nerd Alert…Nerd Alert!

What you are about to read is about to expose my nerdy side…shhh…let’s just keep this our little secret, OK?

For Christmas, I asked for and received this awesome present.

You can find it here on Amazon: Melissa & Doug License Plate Game(affiliate link). Which is where we ordered it from because we love Amazon and I think 75% of our Christmas shopping is done through them using their fantastic free shipping! LOVE! Anyway, I digress…
I LOVE watching license plates any time I am in the car. It is a little nerdy habit of mine. I am good at finding them! Whenever we drive long distances, we used to print out this version of the game: Family Travel Forum PDF License Plate Game. That version worked great but as I prefer to be eco sensitive and not print things all the time, I only used it on long trips. I still really enjoy looking for license plates. So, I saw this game and knew it must be on my Christmas list. I was so excited when I got it!
We currently live in a location where we get to see a lot of variety of license plates…makes me so happy.
Here is how we use our license plate game. I am pretty sure it comes with different ideas, but we wanted to use it in a way that we liked. Snowflake helped me with coming up with the idea of how we are currently using it. I know there are many possibilities of how to use it…many of which we will use at some point.
I cleared the board at the beginning of the year and wanted to see how long it would take me to find all 50 state plates.
In case you can’t read above(you can click on it to make it larger), when we start a new game we put all the plates on the side with the picture of the plate.
When we see a plate on a car, we turn that wood piece to the red side.
When we see a plate on a semi, we turn that wood piece to the blue side.
When we have seen it on both, we turn it to the side with the state capital listed.
The side with the picture of the license plates are those states that we have yet to find.
From the beginning of the year, we have managed to find all but 8 states. We even found Hawaii 2 times! and Alaska even more than that! It makes my little nerdy self so happy!
Now if we could just find those 8 states….it was 9 until yesterday…so still holding out hope.
I am sure the next time we go on a longer trip, we will reset this and start over. Of course, now both of my girls want one of these boards so we can compete on longer trips as well…hmmm…. might have to oblige them on this one! 🙂 Or if not, we can make teams (red and blue) and compete for the first to find them….sounds fun as well…though I suspect tears would be involved with this version.
Well, there you have a glimpse into the small things that make me and our family happy!
Thanks for stopping by and for keeping my nerdy little secret. Now you can get your craft on and make these cute DIY state wall art.

More to Enjoy! 😍

I want one too! Especially for those twenty-two hour trips “back home”. I just write each new one on a sheet of paper as I find them — how much more cool this would be!
