Have you ever needed to put a birthday party together but not had the time or energy to do a Pinterest worthy party? I’m going to assume I can hear a chorus of, “All the time!” Or, “Isn’t that what all birthday parties are like….who has the time?” Whew…it’s not just me. Today I’ve got some cute, creative and super easy to pull off birthday party ideas for girls. (Boys may like them as well, but since I have girls, I know they will like them.) Oh and don’t forget, at the end of the post, I have a free printable to help you pull off your own Littlest Pet Shop Party!
Last week my youngest daughter turned 8 years old. She had opted not to have a party, but then the opportunity for this post came up and she begged me to do a party for her and for the blog. How can I say no to that? I didn’t. I also wanted to keep the party low-key because I didn’t have the time, money or energy to do a big party. She also wasn’t supposed to get a big party. She had opted for no party and more presents. She is one smart kid, knowing that she could get a party by having it be for the blog. 😉
To get started, I went to the Hasbro website and learned a bit about Littlest Pet Shop because although my girls watch the TV show and have some of the toys, I have totally not paid attention. On the site, I learned a little bit about the characters that are part of the show and the toy line. After that, I easily came up with some quick, creative and inexpensive party ideas. Perfect trifecta.
We started the party with letting the girls play with the new Littlest Pet Shop Style sets. We got a few sets to try out for this post. They are great! They really let the kids have fun making the set their own. They are easily customizable and reconfigured to be whatever the child wants at that moment. The girls had fun playing together with the style sets and checking out all the fun features. It was an easy way to start the party. You know that awkward time when one person has shown up but not everyone has arrived so you don’t really want to get the party started. The style sets were a great activity to fill that time.
I had to pull the kids away from the style sets to get to the other activities. First up, we put together Blythe’s Pet Fashion show. Blythe is the main human character on the show. She is a fashionista and has her own pet fashion line.
For the pet fashion show, we used a few small animals we had along with yarn, fabric, and felt. You will also want tape (or glue if you feel you have time for it to dry on the outfits). Let the girls go to town creating an outfit for their pet.
Everyone enjoyed this so much! They were so creative and really didn’t want to stop making the fashion show. But alas, I knew we were running out of time and got them to finish up so we could have our actual fashion show.
For the fashion show, mark off part of the carpet with yarn as your runway. Each girl walks her pet down the runway. If they have come up with a name for their fashion, they get to tell that and anything else they want the audience to know about their outfit.
It was fun to see how different all the outfits were and how much they girls really enjoyed this!
Another character on the show is Pepper. Pepper is a skunk. The Hasbro website says that Pepper uses her scent to express herself. When Pepper is happy she smells lovely. When she is nervous or sad…well I’d say stay away! We decided to make Pepper’s fragrance…if she were in a good mood. 🙂
For this activity, I wanted to keep our fragrance all natural. I used Grapeseed oil because it was the least expensive carrier oil I could find. I bought a few of the little bottles in which to mix the fragrance. I would recommend that you use bottles with a screw top lid. The last thing needed are essential oils. I have a few of those already, so we just selected from those.
The girls got to blend their own fragrance. I filled their bottle probably 90% full with the Grapeseed oil. Then they got to add drops of the essential oil(s) of their liking. They started with just a drop or two and added as need to get the strength and desired fragrance.
Lastly, we turned on some fun music and had Zoe’s dance party. Zoe is another character in the show who is known to break into song or kick off a musical production. We thought she would be the best host for a dance party.
The girls got quite silly and hyper during the dance party. It was perfect timing for cupcakes! 😉
I made cupcakes and added the Littlest Pet Shop rings I found to each. Easy and cute!
As I mentioned, we received a few style sets as part of doing this post. We decided to pass the fun along to our friends who came. We had two families who came, so each family got to take a set home! They were very excited to get to enjoy a style set all their own! It was so fun to me to be able to give such a great party favor! That made me happy. 🙂
All five girls had a fantastic time at our Littlest Pet Shop birthday party. I’m telling you, I’m pretty sure it was the easiest party I have ever hosted. The hardest part was getting the house clean…and that was hard…you know what I mean, right?
As promised, I have a free printable for you so you can easily pull off your own Littlest Pet Shop birthday party. This printable includes the three folded tent cards you see pictured in the post as well as 8 glass wrappers. You print the wrappers out and they will fit around a milk bottle (or clean old Frappuccino bottle). The wrappers have all 8 of the characters from the show. It makes it easy to know which drink goes to which child.
What are your favorite quick, easy and creative birthday party ideas?
