More Halloween Crafts – Make a Spooky Halloween Wreath

I’ve been making more Halloween crafts! I’ve had a lot of fun making things this year. Being crafty and doing some DIY is not only fun but it is soothing to me. That being said, this Halloween wreath took me a bit longer than I expected. It wasn’t hard to make, it just took a little more time. Which would be why I’m sharing it with you closer to Halloween than I have planned. If you don’t have time to make it this year, you can always pin it and make it next year. 🙂

Loving all the fun Halloween crafts! I need to make this adorable and spooky DIY Halloween wreath.

Cute and just a touch spooky or maybe we need to make a new category…spooky cuteness. 😉

I don’t care for the scary and gory stuff of Halloween, so I keep my Halloween decorations on the fun and cute side. This wreath definitely fits in the cute and fun Halloween decoration ideas.

As I’ve mentioned it was easy to make, it just took me a little more time than I thought it would take…which is really the story of my life. I guess I’m just bad at estimating the time things will take. Oh well, it is all good. I got it made and I’ve got the full tutorial to share with you today.

Craft Supplies:

  • Wreath form
  • Felt-affiliate link (I used 17 black and 6 purple)
  • Googlie Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun (and lots of glue)
  • Black Ribbon
  • Black paint
  • Paintbrush

So do you ever start a craft and realize that you need to modify your idea because the current idea will take you forever to complete? Yeah…me too!

That is what happened with this Halloween wreath. I started with the straw wreath form that you see in the supplies picture above. I quickly realized that it was going to take me a WHOLE lot more felt and time to cover that wreath form. With that wreath form, I was going to need to cover the top as well as the inside and outside of the form. It was going to take a ton of felt roses to do so. I came up with plan B.

I bought a Styrofoam flat wreath form. If you do the same, you will want to prep it so that the end result looks great. I gave mine a quick covering with black paint. That way if the roses didn’t cover everything completely, it wouldn’t show through with white. If you do so, expect that the paint will take forever to dry. This type of Styrofoam is not made to be painted.

Hot glue black ribbon to the inside and outside of your wreath form. Now you only need to cover the top of the wreath with roses, which will save you tons of felt and time. Yay!

Cut your felt into circles. I cut two circles out of each piece of felt (which is what the numbers are based on in the supplies list). After you have cut the felt into circles, you need to cut the circles into spirals as you can see pictured above.

To make the flowers, start by rolling the smallest end of your spiral of felt. Continue rolling, making the bottom even, until you reach the center of your cut circle. Make sure you have a large enough piece of felt left to cover the entire bottom. Hot glue this ‘flap’ onto the bottom of your flower.

Once you have made all of your felt flowers, begin by figuring out the best fit for the flowers on the wreath. Use hot glue to adhere to the wreath.

It will be a little bit like a puzzle. That is why I like to make all my flowers first. I can see what flowers will fill in the space nicely. Somehow it usually just works out.

You will have a wreath that looks something like this when you are done.

One thing that I learned was to try to put the purple felt in pairs together. That way, when you add the eyes, you can add one to each flower and it will look like a pair of eyes. Mine eyes are somewhat separated and not necessarily ideal in some places. Oh well, I still like the end result.

Next, work on the placement of your eyes. Had I placed my purple felt flowers in pairs, I could have had more spooky eyes or eyes on all of the purple flowers. Just be careful not to have too many pairs of eyes or it will overtake the wreath.

Cuteness! This wreath is now a part of my Halloween mantel. I know last week I told you I would try to show you my mantel, but I’ve been so off this fall with the changes in our family that I have run out of time and posts in which to share the mantel with you. I will try to snap a pic for you and put it on my Facebook page. At any rate, it looks really cute on the mantel with my glittery Halloween craft and the ghostly Halloween craft.

What Halloween crafts have you made this year? Any you had to modify as you went?

More Halloween fun for you:
