Do you love good wine bottle crafts? I know I do. First you have to start by emptying the wine bottle…it makes the craft so hard, but a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do in order to have some fun crafting time. I’ve got a pretty and glittery wine bottle craft for you today that you can tailor to your favorite colors as well as any season or holiday.

While these bottles look like they are for Valentine’s Day, they really have a deeper meaning for me.

Have you heard of selecting a word for your year? It is something that I hadn’t really heard of until I became a blogger and read other blogs near the beginning of the year.

It is the idea of selecting a word that represents something to you or something that you want to work on or bring to your life for that year.

For the first time, I decided to select a word for the year and I wanted to make something to keep in my house to remind myself of what I want to focus on in 2015.

I had this idea for a few years but never got around to make wine bottles that spell out a word. I knew that in my working with Offray, their ribbon would be the perfect medium for wrapping the bottles. They sent me the ribbon that I needed as well as sponsored this post, but as always I’m keeping it real and all opinions are 100% my own. 

So, to be personal for a minute before I get to the tutorial on how to make these pretty bottles with the gorgeous glittery Offray ribbon, I wanted to share a little bit about my word for this year.

I actually have two words, one for business and one for personal. Though they really both apply to both my business and my personal lives.

I’ve been told for most of my life that I am a strong woman. Most people meant it as a negative. It is something I have really struggled with. How can I be myself and who I was created to be while at the same time feeling like my being a strong person is such a bad thing? I can’t. It has caused me to be inauthentic many times in my life, in my desire to make others happy.

Ironically, I came up with my word for this year while watching the movie ‘Frozen.’ In the movie, Elsa has this power that everyone, including herself, is afraid of. She operates from a place of fear and only bad occurs. Yet there comes a point that she accepts her power, but doesn’t quite know how to use it for the good. I think it was her sister, but it may have been one of those little rock trolls or both, that point out that love is the answer to knowing how to use her power for good.

This year, I want to be like Elsa and accept who I am and this ‘power’ that lies within me. I don’t want to feel bad for being a strong woman. I want to embrace it. Of course, if I only embrace that and don’t learn to use it well, I will be coming from that same place of fear and won’t do any good. I need to make sure I embrace my power and come from love. Hence my word of the year, love.

Next up was coming up with a way to remind myself. Of course, I wanted something pretty and glittery that I could keep out all year. I didn’t want it to be seasonal. I have pinned and made many wine bottle crafts over the years. There was one from Pinterest stuck out to me(I have it pinned to a secret board and would share it with you, but Pinterest says it is a spammy link now…boo!). I decided to make it my own.

Supplies:

• Wine bottles (the number needed will vary based on the word you are spelling out)
• Wooden letters
• Paint
• Paintbrush
• Sparklet ribbon – 5/8″ in Turquoise and Gold
• Hot glue gun
• Hot glue
• Scissors

Start by painting your letters. You will usually need more than one coat of paint.

Use the glitter ribbon to cover your wine bottle. I found it easiest to start at the bottom of the wine bottle and go up toward the top. Wrap the ribbon around the bottle tightly and gluing tightly as you go.

You will want to hot glue the ribbon in place as you go. You might also want nail polish that matches your ribbon. 🙂

I found that I liked wrapping the ribbon around the bottle halfway and placing some glue under the ribbon. Wrap another halfway around the bottle and place glue. Keep going in that pattern until you get to the neck of the bottle.

The neck of the bottles gets a little more tricky. You will need to wrap the ribbon and glue more frequently. You will also need to press the ribbon into the bottle which will create some bumps and creases in the ribbon. In the end the ribbon is so glittery and sparkly that these creases and bumps will not be very noticeable…unless you are trying to photograph them, then it will look like the creases and bumps are like the Grand Canyon even though it looks nothing like that in real life. Uuggh! In case you couldn’t figure it out, photographing these bottles was a bit challenging.

So, even though they don’t look bad above, when you look at the picture above, you see some of those wraps, bumps and creases around the necks of the bottles. They are not that obvious in person at all. My family couldn’t believe the difference between these pictures and the real things.

A word of fair warning though, you will be covered in glitter by the end of this wine bottle craft. This Offray ribbon is so pretty and sparkly and that pretty sparkle will be all over you and whatever you are sitting on while you are working. It is all worth it in the end to me. I love the look that I created.

I placed these bottles on a table in my entryway. I pass by there many times a day to go up or down the stairs. It is a great reminder of what I want to focus on this year and fun when the sun hits the glitter. So pretty!
