For Pumpkin’s 6th birthday party, she wanted an American Girl Party. Her favorite American Girl is a historical character, Felicity. Felicity is a character from colonial times. I created these invitations for her Felicity American Girl Party. I really tried to make them to match the theme and the time period. They were very easy to put together once I figured out the different elements and sizes.

Let me show you how I made them:
I started by printing off the invitations. I decided to send the invitations as though they were from Felicity Merriman, inviting the girls to Pumpkin’s birthday party. It was as clever as I could be. The wording on the invitation also reflects my ‘cleverness.’ You know, the things like, “the fun and merriment will commence on.”
I used Blackadder ITC for my font. I felt like it was the best font for colonial times. In fact, I think it may be the font they use for printed materials in Colonial Williamsburg(or I could be remembering wrong).
I wanted my invitations to fit into a standard envelope. I cut the worded portion of the invitation to 3.25″ x 8.5″.
I wanted the purple portion of the invitations to have a finished size of 3.75″ x 9″. To get three of this size out of one 12×12 scrapbook piece of paper, I marked the top and bottom of the paper starting about 1/3 of an inch from the edge of the paper. Using that as a starting point, I then marked at the top and bottom of the page every 3.75″. This gave me two points with which to line up my tearing tool. Once I had the tearing tool lined up. I tore the paper from top to bottom.
I repeated the process for tearing the top and bottom of the invitation. This time, I marked about a half inch from the top of the paper and 9″ down from that point, lined things up and tore in both places again.
See that price tag? I got this paper on clearance at Michael’s for only $0.23 per sheet! I got 3 invitations out of each sheet….good deal!
All torn and ready to be assembled.
The last thing to do was to use the Martha Stewart Punch Around the Edge – Eyelet Lace
for the top and the bottom of the invitation. I hadn’t worked with these punches before. Once I read the directions (D’Oh), I figured out in order for them to come out correctly, whatever you plan to punch has to be certain widths (which is why my worded invitation was 3.25″). Other than taking me a while to figure that out – which wouldn’t have taken long at all had I read the directions – they were really easy to work with. I love the result and feel like they really added to the theme for these invitations.

I love the result and feel like they really added to the theme for these invitations.For the final touch to the invitations, I added 2 paper flowers which I adhered with a foam square cut in half.
With the invitations completed, I wanted to add a little touch to the envelopes as well. I decided to try the punch on the envelope. I figured out that if I lined the punch up with the middle edge of the envelope, it worked well to make it to the end.
As you can see above, using the punch the way I did, left a small portion at the center with no eyelet lace detail. I probably could have left it, but instead, I used a small flower punch and added two flowers to the envelope. I think the envelope was the final detail to add to begin to let people know what was to come with this fun Felicity American Girl Party! It felt a bit ‘Martha’ like to me, which is nice, since I was using her punches. 😉
