Do you decorate for fall? Fall is such a fun season for decorating. I’ve got some fall decorating ideas for you today.
I have fun being creative and crafty and I also have fun adding some decorative touches to my house, but let me tell you I am not a professional stylist. In fact, it is an area that I think I am a bit weak. I still like to decorate and have fun making things with which to decorate. Even though it may not look all glossy and perfect, it is how we really decorate and what we enjoy at our house. I thought you might like to see our fall mantel and get some real/do-able fall decorating ideas. I also have one tip for you to use in your own fall decorating.
Pumpkins and apples are great items to use for fall decorating. Over the years, I’ve made the spiral yarn wrapped pumpkin as well as the yarn wrapped apples. In the foreground is the glitter pumpkin I made this year that was a bit of a craft fail, but it seems to look good in that spot, so I’m using it.
This year I put all the pumpkins together in a burlap basket I got at Michael’s. It was really simple to put together. I did put a torn and crumpled up Trader Joe’s bag below the pumpkins as filler to raise the pumpkins up.
I love seeing my collection of pumpkins all together. I love all the different textures and colors in the basket and on the bricks.
The glitter pumpkins I made this year were very simple to make and really sparkle in the pumpkin basket.
While the colors didn’t photograph really well, I love the DIY crafts I made into a fall garland. To me, it just adds another layer of interest and texture to the mantel. That is the thing I am learning and working on in my decorating…adding layers and multiple colors and textures. It just makes the space so much more visually appealing.
On the mantel, I used a fall leaf garland that I have had for years. I added a few of the glitterized apples/pears, another DIY Craft, that I made this year along with a few family photos. Isn’t the picture of my two girls precious! It is still one of my all time favorite pictures.
Here is my tip for you. That fall leaf garland that looks great in the store (and has been around for a while) has quite a few bare spots that make it look pretty sparse when I put it on the mantel. If you have a garland like this you don’t have to throw it away. Just buy a bag of individual leaves and use them as filler by laying and/or tucking them into those bare spots. No one will know the difference, but it sure makes a big difference in how the garland looks.
Finally on the mantel is my pretty globe with a couple more glitterized pears from my fall crafting this year.
It looks like fall. All of the individual elements were quick and easy to put together and none of them cost a whole lot either. Works for me and my budget and looks pretty, too. It also looks like my fireplace wants to be painted! I want to paint my fireplace so badly but I haven’t saved up the money yet. I keep spending the money on other things…I really need to stop doing that. Once I have the money, I will just need to find the time. Hopefully by next fall…right?
Have you decorated for fall yet? What types of decorations do you like to use?
I love all the different textures of your pumpkins! Your hearth looks so inviting and cozy!

Thank you! I love all the textures, too. It seems like it makes it more interesting to look at. What do you think? Do you try to use lots of textures in your decorating?
