I know that Halloween hasn’t even passed yet, but I’m already looking forward to putting up my fall decorations (I’ve only decorated for Halloween so far this fall). I had the idea to make these cute little decorative pillows for my living room for Thanksgiving. In the process, I found a way to make them super, super easy to make. Yay! Super easy cuteness, what could be better?
I know to some people it sounds really dorky, but I’ve long wanted to decorate all of my house for all of the seasons and holidays. Over the years, I’ve been slowly doing just that and having tons of fun along the way. Last year, I made these super simple pillows that I sewed covers for a few times throughout the year. I really thought about sewing something for them again, but things have been so busy this year with all of the kids various activities that I lack the time to finish that project. You guys, I found the easiest way to add a cute little touch to your living room. Wait until you see how easy it is.
I made my pillow using Elmer’s (who sponsored this post) Painter’s Pens for Thanksgiving, but you can easily do this same thing for any occasion. Let me show you this easy and cute decorative pillow.
Supplies:
- Small burlap pillow
- Sierra Sunset Painter’s Pen Set
- Adhesive Stencil or a steady hand
I picked up my pillow at the dollar spot at my favorite store. Super inexpensive and already made for me.
I started by making my own stencil because I don’t have a steady hand. If you have a steady hand, you could just pencil your wording onto your pillow and fill it in with the Painter’s pens.
Place the stencil onto the pillow and press it well. The burlap is a bit bumpy so take a little care with your stencil if you are using one.
Use your Painter’s pen to fill in the wording on your stencil or to fill in your pencil outline. The Painter’s pens are permanent and quick drying. They are fabric safe and don’t need anything extra to set them. That makes this a super fast and simple craft. Literally, it took me 2-3 minutes after I made the stencil and I was done.
Remove your stencil.
Already done! So simple and so cute! I was amazed that there was absolutely no bleeding of the Painter’s pen even with the burlap. I assumed that because the burlap is so bumpy, I would have some bleeding, but nothing at all. The Painter’s pens were really easy to draw exactly where I wanted them to go. I really think I could do this without a stencil in the future…but I might be chicken since I don’t have a steady hand at all.
The little pillow goes perfectly with the pillows I made last year (though they are quite dirty and need a good wash about now). The burlap is quite itchy, so it is nice that this is such a small pillow. It adds just a touch of Thanksgiving, decoration, and texture. Perfect!
I LOVE the look of the finished pillow and I absolutely love how quick and easy it was to make…are you getting my point yet? This was so crazy easy! It was just what I needed. Do you know what I mean? You want to add something fun and make a little something, but you want it to be done quickly and be easy. Or is that just me?
