I’ve got another project for you from the makeover in my daughter’s room. Today, I’ve got a cute idea for cheap home decor. We made a whole wall of Pumpkin’s artwork!
Pumpkin is my maker for sure! Not that Snowflake doesn’t make things, but Pumpkin…I’m pretty sure it is in her blood (like Mother, like daughter). She is always making something. I’ve long thought it would be fun to have a place for her to display her work. Then when she is ready, she can change the artwork out and start fresh. What fun!
Let me remind you where we started. The wall with the lamp is where I wanted to put her wall of art. It leads right into her corner area with the DIY desk that I showed you, which is often where she creates.
I’m sure you will notice that we also added curtains. They are too long and need a little something added to them. That will be an upcoming post. 🙂
To make your own cheap home decor of an art wall, you will need the IKEA Dignitet. It is meant for hanging curtains, but it is perfect for this application as well. You can pick them up at IKEA for only $12.99 or if you don’t have an IKEA near you, you can also get them on Amazon (affiliate link) for just a little more (but still much better than paying IKEA shipping fees).
I bought three of them because I wanted to fill this entire space and I wanted Pumpkin to have lots of room to display her creations.
We decided to hang them up at the top of the window, 26″ down from that and 18″ down from that. I felt like that gave a variety of sizes for her artwork and gave a little visual interest over having them spaced out evenly. Mr. T (my husband) hung them up for me. There are directions that come with them that are straightforward. They come with a long piece of wire (197″) that you cut down to the size you need, which means as long as you want a span less than 197″ you can make this any length you want. Woot, woot! That is fun and a huge amount of space.
Pumpkin had been waiting since the beginning of the school year to hang up her first art project of the year from our new homeschool co-op. This new art wall is the perfect size and place for her first massive project! We added lots of her other current favorite art.
The Dignitet comes with 24 of these clips. Again, it is meant for curtains but works perfectly for clipping in artwork.
I love this leaf rubbing Pumpkin did in her art class.
We even found we could hang up some of her Junior Ranger badges from our summer road trip this summer and another trip to Arizona.
As you can see, it adds a lot of personality and fun to her corner.
I love that she has such a great space in which to display all of her creativity. I fully expect to attend an art show soon…it will be in Pumpkin’s room. 😀
Oh yeah, for those of you who were expecting to see an update on her closet next, we have run into a snag in getting that done. We went from having doors that just needed painting, to finding doors that have mold (they were in storage), to needing to buy new doors and start all over. Sigh. I’m hoping to finish her closet over Thanksgiving weekend and have an update on it for you in a week or two…at the rate I’m going, it will probably be a little bit longer.
