I know I am always curious about what other homeschooler’s are doing and what they are using. So, I thought I would post what we will be doing for this year. Click on any of the items that are another color to follow those links and learn more.
Snowflake – 4th Grade:
- Main Curriculum (Science, Social Studies and all Literature, Grammar, etc) – Moving Beyond the Page 8-10
- Math – RightStart Math Level D & E. We are on level D now, when we finish we will move on to level E.
- Vocabulary – Dynamic Literacy – Word Build. Not something we have done in the past, but I see this and spelling as a weakness, so we are going to see if we like this and it helps.
- Cursive – Handwriting without Tears – Cursive Success
- Art – Artistic Pursuits. I like this program because it combines learning about artists, seeing their work as well as learning some techniques.
- Music – I am doing a combination of learning about various styles of music from around the world using World Playground as well as some free resources on the Putumayo website and getting some of the CD’s from the library.
- I am also going to teach them both how to play the recorder using this book: Recorder Fun. Anybody willing to send me a huge pack of earplugs for this experiment?! I really don’t like the sound of the recorder, but it fits our budget…and the kids seem to really like it.
- Typing (or is it called keyboarding now and I am showing my age?!)- Garfield Typing Pal….still working to get her really typing.
- PE – thinking of trying this program this year, Family Time Fitness. It is currently available through the Homeschool Buyer’s Co-op.
- Weekly co-op we attend will be covering geography of Asia and Astronomy.
- Main Curriculum – Peak with Books. I think in January we will start Moving Beyond the Page 5-7with her.
- Math – RightStart Math Level A.
- Phonics – Explode the Code Level 1 & 2 (and with as fast as she is going through Level 1 we may hit level 3 and beyond)
- Handwriting – Handwriting without Tears – Letters and Numbers for Me

- Weekly co-op we attend I will be teaching her class. Haven’t fully figured out what I am teaching yet, but think it is going to be a ‘Trip Around the World.’ I’m thinking we will learn about maps and how to use them, then visit some of the major countries around the world and learn a little about them and their culture. Sounds fun and I hope I can do it and make it fun! 🙂
We also use the library liberally as well as field trips and many other fun resources I can’t think of at the moment!
I’ve also written about how I organize my lessons plans for daily and weekly success with homeschooling. I’ve got some great ideas for you.
Follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more homeschool discussions and behind the scenes with my family.

We are finishing up this year so I am searching around blogs to see what other people are doing. I guess you will have one in 6th grade coming up (or we approximate grade because non-homeschoolers are pretty insistent that we use traditional grade levels. 🙂 Here’s how we are ending this year- https://www.notquitewonderwoman.com/how-to-end-your-homeschool-year-like-a-hippie/
I’ll come back over and see what y’all are doing for 14-15 school year. Have a good week!
