I know I am a bit late in posting last week’s training. We had a busy weekend and there just wasn’t time. I know you were waiting on pins and needles to see how my training went for this week…right?!
Here’s how things went:
As you may remember, my IT band was acting up after my 8.5 mile run the week before (Week 2). I wanted to take it easy but still get some miles in this week. I started off with a simple 2.25 mile run this week. I really wanted to get all three runs in this week, so I felt that I needed to modify them in order to accomplish that goal.
In my second run of the week, I ran 3.2 miles. I completed my strength training as well as the Physical Therapy for my IT band. On Friday, I was able to complete my long run of 9 miles. Let me say, it wasn’t pretty, but I did finish the full 9 miles! I am actually really proud of myself for finishing the full 9 miles. It was hot and my IT band was getting irritated. I really thought about calling Mr. T to pick me up. While debating what to do, I knew that I would be really disappointed with myself if I didn’t finish the 9 miles. I let my pace fly out the window and decided the miles and being able to say I did it were more important. I walked a bunch to keep my IT band a bit happier. You know what? It worked! I finished the 9 miles in 1:30 with a pace of 10 minutes per mile. For me, that is about one to one and a half minutes slower than my normal pace. I am still very happy with that run! I did it and I got the miles in that I wanted to get in. My IT band was a bit irritated following the run, but two days later, not so much. So, my walking a bunch at the end really helped me not flare up.
I didn’t get in any speed training this week. It is something I am going to have to figure out. At the moment, I don’t think I can go for the distance and the speed at the same time if I want my body to do what I am asking it to do. Right now, my decision is to go for the miles over the speed. As I get further into the training, I am sure I will modify my plan and figure out how to add some speed training. I am really working for finishing this half marathon in under two hours.
I ran 9 miles this week! Doesn’t that just sound neat to say…or is that just me? I find it impressive.
Here’s hoping this week is as successful! Happy Running to you!
So glad to hear you where able to complete the nine miles with wisdom. Great job!
Thanks Mom! <3
WOW 9 miles that is amazing, congrats. I am just getting started into running again. Last weekend I ran my first 5k in years and I was so proud of my self. I will posting my recap tomorrow on my blog stop by if you like. My goal will be to eventually train for a half marathon
Keep up the good work.
Stopping by from live laugh {linky} party.
I’m super impressed that you got your 9 miles all in at once. I count it a good week when I do 9 miles over the week.;)
Thanks so much! I like when I get 9 miles over the course of the week as well. Just have to do more right now, but I will likely be going back to that when I am done with this race.
