Do you like to make cookies? I don’t. Surprising since I seem to make them for you all often enough. 😉 I especially don’t like making sugar cookies. To me, they are the worst since they need to be rolled, cut out and then decorated. When I was looking through my Grandma’s recipe box, I saw an old fashioned recipe for sugar cookies that were dropped not rolled. I thought these were my kind of sugar cookie and had to give them a try.
This batter mixes up quite quickly and easily. I will give you a tip I have learned over time. When a recipe tells you to sift the dry ingredients, just put them in a bowl and whisk them. It does the same thing as sifting in less time and with less effort. If you are like me, you will love that tip! ♥
I made about half of my cookies by dropping them with the small scoop I’ve shown you a few times. It works well and makes making cookies quick and easy.
I cooked my dropped cookies on a baking sheet lined with a Silpat. Cookies just seem to cook really well on the Silpat for me.
Since Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, I decided to make a few of these large cookies in heart-shaped pans I picked up at Cost Plus World Market. Don’t they look so cute? Because this recipe uses a slow oven (I had to Google for what that meant), the larger cookies cook just fine without getting burnt around the edges.
When working with old fashioned recipes, you get to learn new things. A slow oven is an oven at a temperature between 275 and 325 degrees depending on where you look. The biggest consensus was that is was 300 degrees. That is what I used.
After getting some good pictures for you guys, I had to take a taste. The cookies are delicious. They have a more cake like consistency to them. They are soft and fluffy and have not lasted very long at our house. I guess I will have to make something else for Valentine’s day. 😀
Whether you make them as dropped cookies or as heart-shaped cookies as a Valentine’s treat, I think you will like this old fashioned recipe for sugar cookies.

I totally understand your dilemma with cookies! I’d much rather throw together brownies or some sort of bar that can be put in a pan and then go into the oven all at once. Unfortunately, I have a weakness for sugar cookies–especially soft and cakey ones that I can’t make in a pan. I bet these would be awesome with some vanilla frosting slathered on top :).
See, you totally get my problem with cookies! These would, indeed be good with vanilla frosting on top. If only I had some when I made them! It would have been delish!
