Real Organization – Our Playroom

Our Playroom Organization!

Last week while we were on a break from school, we did some organizing. I was quite impressed with how much my 2 girls were willing to part with. There were very few fights during the process and mostly those that happened were just because we were tired. All in all it was quite a successful project.

I forgot to take before pictures, which I know is really not helpful because you can’t see what it looked like when we started, but I did get some good shots of the during and the after. I will learn to take the before shots…someday! Our playroom is our 3rd bedroom. It is the larger of the 2 bedrooms. Our girls share a room, that way there is plenty of space to play!

Sorting through all the books and puzzles. This one stays!
This one goes…quick put it in the donate pile before they change their mind!
Sorting through the closet…can you tell we are on the dress up box?
What do you think? This one or…
This one?
Seriously, here is our finished room. I always rearrange almost everything when we do a cleaning/organizing session. I don’t know if your kids are like mine, but things always seem so much more interesting when they are in a different location.
The corner area.
Each girl has 1 of those pink bins/drawers that they can store things that the other can’t play with. The bin on the floor is on wheels and contains all of their beloved Build-A-Bear outfits, etc. All of that stuff didn’t use to be in that bin. I am hoping that the fact that it is on wheels will keep it a little more contained since those are the most used things in the playroom.
Closet
We put in this closet system ourselves a few years ago. It works great and because we did it ourselves it wasn’t that expensive.
The top shelves contain additional school supplies, etc., that don’t fit in our main school area downstairs. These items also aren’t regularly used.
The left side of the closet is primarily the dress up area. When I designed the closet, I made this area just for dress up and even put in a shoe shelf at the bottom there! I thought it would be any little girl’s dream dress up closet!
The right side of closet – all kinds of toys. The big baskets at the bottom have barbies and the other has the Geotrax train set. We are trying the Legos and Polly Pockets upstairs, but if you didn’t notice our carpet…it is a shag carpet that was here when we bought the house. Those little things get lost in the carpet at an alarming rate…so the verdict is out as to if it will work to have those little toys up here.
Another wall in the room. Puppet theater (tucked behind it is a small box with puppets and the cash register…because the theater mostly gets used as a store front) and bookcase with a cozy bean bag for reading.
Surprisingly for us book lovers, we probably mostly got rid of books. Kind of sad to see them go, but truthfully, we check out so many books at the library, that we are fine. I did make another shelf, 1 for each girl, in this bookcase, so they each have a little space all their own. Can you tell we have a child who LOVES the magic tree house books? I even made a shelf with all the princess and Fancy Nancy books! Oh La La!
Just a different view…there is Gwenie…our giant Groovy Girl! and Pumpkin’s baby play things.
One more view because if you are like me when you read a blog, it is just fun to look at the pictures!
Finally, I decided to spend $19.99 at Costco and get a rug for the middle of the room. That way they can play with the Legos and Polly Pockets on the rug and maybe not lose so many of them in the shag carpet. The girls both really wanted this one. It doesn’t match the room at all, but I decided to go for what they wanted as opposed to my need for things to match. Hope they appreciate it! 🙂
Enjoy your day!

More to Enjoy! 😍

Thanks Lorren. I know what you mean about not wanting to go in. It does feel good to have in more organized. It doesn’t look that tidy anymore, but at least we got rid of a lot of clutter and stuff we don’t love anymore. There is less to pick up now!
