One Pot Sausage and Apple Pasta Dinner Recipe

Ok guys…has your fall be a bit nuts like mine? This school year has started off so busy. I already feel the need for summer. I know I’ve told you all about the once a month cooking I’m doing, but I still love to occasionally cook. With how busy things have been it has been hard to find the time to occasionally cook. This week, I mixed up a one-pot pasta dinner that was so stinkin’ delicious and cheesy that I knew I needed to share it with you as well.

OMG! I love easy dinner recipes like this one-pot sausage and apple Pasta recipe. Yum!

This fall my oldest daughter, Snowflake, is in her school play production in addition to her usual activities. My younger daughter continues to homeschool. We are in a new co-op and she has her usual lessons outside of our school work. That combined with the fact that Mr. T has traveled a lot this fall and I’m ready to check into a spa for the weekend. Sounds nice, right?

Anyway, one of the dorky things that I get a bit militant about when I’m the only adult in the house is the number of dishes that get dirty. See it takes away from my work schedule to have to do up lots of dishes. Whatever needs hand washing is a problem. With my doing more freezer cooking, it has really helped, but like I said I love cooking, so a one pot dinner is just the thing. Especially if is it super cheesy, because we LOVE cheese around here.

Barilla (who sponsored this post) has a new pasta, Barilla Pronto, that I picked up at my local Martin’s. It can turn any pasta dish into a one pot wonder. Yay! It also makes the cooking end of things a breeze as well. I’ve got the full recipe for you at the bottom of this post, but essentially what I did was to saute up the apples, onions, sausage and a little flour. I set them aside (yes, it made one more dish, but it was one that could go in the dishwasher, so I’m all good!), then added the correct amount of water and the pasta. Cook it according to the package in a dutch oven – this is one that is very similar to mine and a great price (affiliate link).

After the pasta has cooked according to the package, just add in milk and the set-aside ingredients and let that cook for a few minutes. There is no need to drain the pasta. Once the milk has thickened a bit, remove from the heat and add the cheeses.

Oh my goodness you guys! This was so incredibly delicious and so incredibly cheesy. It was silky and smooth as well. Now, I have a little secret, we often eat Mac and Cheese from a box for lunch. This was NOT that. This was creamy, smooth and so stinkin’ delicious. My girls have even elected to eat the leftovers for lunches for a couple of days now. Hello! Big mom win!

The only thing I would change when I make this again is to use a different sausage. I used a different sausage that had apples in it to add to the apple flavor of the dish. It was good, but our favorite Sun-Dried Tomato sausage would taste even better to us.

All in all, it took me about 30 minutes to make this dish, including the prep and chopping time. I had 1 big pot that had to be hand washed and 1 bowl from when I set aside the ingredients. Thankfully for my hand dishwashing hating self, that bowl could go in the dishwasher. Successful dinner and it was fun to cook and didn’t take away time from my needed time to work. What could be better?
