Hey, guys! At my house on the weekends, we enjoy making and eating something yummy and a little bit ‘special’ for breakfast. It isn’t that it is actually that special, but rather that it takes a little bit more time to make, and therefore, doesn’t happen on a weekday for us. I’ve created a few donut recipes over the years because we have an electric donut baker and it makes it so easy to make donuts. This week, I’m sharing my latest donut recipe with you…it is a light and fluffy donut featuring honey…it is so sweet and yummy!
You may remember the chocolate donuts I made at Christmas. They were super delicious and a more dense donut. When I set out to make honey donuts I wanted something that was both sweet as well as light and fluffy. I hit the nail on the head with this recipe. I also added some fun to them with the cute sprinkles and extra honey sweetness with Domino® Honey Granules on top of the donuts.
I hadn’t heard of Domino® Honey Granules before, which would be because they are new. They are actually a mixture of the sweet flavor of honey and granulated sugar. They have the lovely taste of honey mixed with sugar. I think they would be perfect in my morning tea, but they can also be used in recipes. I wanted to use them to add that extra touch of honey flavor and some fun crunch on the top of the donut.
Oh, Domino® Honey Granules are sold, but if they don’t sell them in your area. look for C & H® Honey Granules, the sister brand of Domino®.
I’ve got the full recipe for you at the end of the post. You will start by mixing up your dough. I used honey rather than sugar in this recipe to give a full honey flavor to the donuts. Once you have mixed up the dough, cook it in your electric donut baker. I put my donuts in a piping bag and pipe them into my baker. It makes it so much easier. You can also pipe them onto a cookie sheet(but you will have flat donuts) and bake them in the oven. I believe a 350-degree oven for 7 to 10 minutes should work, though I haven’t tested it. Watch them carefully no matter where you cook them as honey has a lower burn point than granulated sugar, so these will cook up faster than donuts with granulated sugar.
Now to add that total honey taste, I mixed up equal parts dusting sugars and Domino® Honey Granules. I dipped the donuts in a simple confectioners sugar glaze and dipped each donut into the sugar and Domino® Honey Granules mixture. OMG! The Domino® Honey Granules add this fun crunch as well as a yummy, sweet honey flavor. They add such great flavor to the donuts.
I made these on a weekday while one of my daughter’s was at school. We all had them for a snack that day…we may possibly have eaten a few each and wanted to go back for more. They are so good! I doubled my recipe to have plenty to photograph, so the following morning they ate more for breakfast. Still totally light and fluffy and YUMMY! I did put them in the refrigerator and the icing mixture on the top was cracking and falling off some, but still totally yummy.
I’m telling you, these may be my favorite homemade donuts I have made yet. I also happen to love the colors I selected for the dusting sugars. So cute and spring-like! Perfect…and likely a part of our Easter celebrations this year. Yum! They also go well with the Strawberry Lemon Sangria I recently made. Yum! Perfect weekend or Mother’s Day breakfast.
