I’ve got some awesome storage organization ideas for you today! Yay! I love organizing and especially so when it is fun stuff like our holiday decorations.
I don’t know about you guys, but I love decorating for the holidays. It is always so fun! It doesn’t hurt that I also love making things to decorate for the holidays and that Target always has such cute items for sale for each holiday. The issue becomes when I go to store all the fun decorating items to save them for next year.
I store most of our decorations in our attic. It is dark and either cold or hot depending on the season. It isn’t a place that I want to spend a lot of time. I usually send my husband up there to get things for me. He, however, is not the best at organizing things. So, I end up with a few things in the boxes and bins like I prefer and other things just kind of laying about in the attic.
When the holiday rolls back around I can’t remember what I had and therefore he doesn’t get me everything.
Recently when I made a trip up to the attic, in addition to noticing the things laying about, I noticed that the labels I have from my Storage Organization System are awesome and work great to keep everything labeled, but because it is relatively dark up in our attic, it was a little hard to read them.
I decided that it would be a great idea to create a Holiday Storage Organization System that would make finding each holiday just a touch easier.
Now my boxes have a graphic representation of the holiday items stored inside the box as well as the wording like all the labels in the Storage Organization Systems. It makes it so much easier to quickly find what I have and what I want to grab. It also makes it easier to send my husband up for things. Now if we need to store something in a plastic bag because it won’t fit in a bin, I can still label it and we still know what is in that bag. Yay!
There are three parts to the holiday storage organization system. They make it easy for you to not only find boxes in your attic, garage or storage spot but to know exactly what you have in each box.
I store my holiday decorations and items in these plastic bins (affiliate link) I get at Target. They keep things easily organized and clean between holidays. They need labels in order for me to easily know what is in each box.
The labels for the boxes are nice and big and can be printed on full sheet labels (affiliate link).
The labels are nice and big so you can easily see them no matter where you are storing your out of season decor items.
I’ve used label makers in the past, but the labels are just too small. Like you, I’m busy and I don’t want to spend 20 minutes trying to read small little labels. I want easy to grab and go.
While you are adding your labels onto your boxes, use the editable detail sheets to keep track of what is in each box or bin.
You can be as detailed or vague as you prefer with the detail sheets.
I prefer to be somewhat detailed because it allows me to easily look at the sheet and see that I already have 3 decorative pillows and perhaps that cute new pillow at Target needs to stay there rather than come home with me. 🙁
There are labels for almost every season or major holiday. So, whether you only decorate for Christmas or you decorate for every season and holiday, I’ve got you covered. If you find that you have a lot of other decorations that aren’t one of the listed holidays or just lots of other stuff in storage, the combo package of the storage organization system and the holiday storage system is a great deal and will cover you no matter your storage organization needs.
The final step in getting your holiday decorations organized is to complete the master list. These 3 sheets go in the front of your family notebook section for your stored items They allow you quickly to see how many pages you have of detailed sheets for each holiday as well as a general overview of what you have and where it is stored.
The end result of these organization ideas is that you know exactly what holiday items you have and where they are located. The large labels make it so easy to quickly find the boxes when you go looking for them. It is a win/win for everyone.
If you feel overwhelmed at the idea of tackling re-organizing everything you currently have squirreled away here and there for the holidays, start with the current holiday season. Buy any needed bins. Get this holiday labeled, the detail sheets and master list completed for that one holiday. Keep going like that one holiday at a time for the year. By the end of the year, it won’t have taken you much additional time, but you will now have holiday decorations that are organized and cataloged. Perfection!

I totally agree! Being organized does make life easier. It makes me feel less scattered, which I love. How about you?

Thank you! I think the labels are so cute…it makes it more fun to store and organized (at least in my mind). 🙂
Way cuter than sharpie marker on packing tape stuck to the totes! 🙂
Ah, thanks! I totally agree….and I think easier as well. Just print the cuteness and slap them on the box. Done! ?
