Thanks to the many of you who have left kind and encouraging comments on my other post regarding my half marathon. They are much appreciated! There are quite a few others of you who are also training for a half marathon. Yay! Way to go! Please keep up with commenting, I would love to hear how your training is going! If you have a blog where you are writing about your journey, let me know. Just email me your info. You can do that by clicking on the envelope under the ‘Contact Me’ header in the sidebar on the right. Maybe we could do a blog hop or I could at least make a list for us to have fun keeping up with each other.
Here is how my training went this week:
Our 4th of July was the ‘coolest’ day we had this week. I got up early that morning (and was so jealous of the rest of my sleeping family) and completed my long run for this week. Thankfully it was a cloud covered morning because that made the temperature doable for a long run. Had it been sunny, I doubt I would have made it. My pace was slower than I’ve been in quite a while. I averaged 9:10, which is fine and all, but until the heat hit, I was averaging 8:10 to 8:30. My goal for the half is finishing under 2 hours. I need to be 9 minute miles and under. Hopefully, that will come with the strides/ fartleks and cooler weather by race day.
I didn’t make my 3rd run for the week. It was just too hot. The two mornings I tried, it was already a heat index of nearly 90. I had to call my family to pick me up a couple of weeks ago when the heat index was in the low to mid 80s….there was no way I was going to try running with that high of a heat index. So, I delightfully got to sleep in!! Yay! At least I got my long run in and I got extra sleep. 🙂
I forgot to mention in my other post about the half marathon that I will write future posts about what I do for strength training. Also, the PT on my plan stands for physical therapy. I need to be doing the PT exercises to keep my hip and IT band healthy. I will write more about that another time.
If you want to follow along on my half marathon updates, please follow me on Twitter or Facebook. These posts will update there.
I have heard that there is something specific you will need to do on Facebook in order to see my feed updates (they have changed it to encourage me to pay for you to see my feed updates), but I couldn’t find that info. right now. I will try to find it before the next update and add it so you can make sure to see the updates.
Have a great week!
