Flashlight Hide & Seek ~ Family Fun

With summer winding down, we still wanted to enjoy some time as a family. Since we tend to stay up much later in the summer, playing flashlight hide and seek for some family fun turned out to be a perfect way to spend a summer night.

Flashlight Hide & Seek ~ Family Fun from www.realcoake.com
This is a game that is fun for the whole family and doesn’t cost a penny to play (unless you don’t own any flashlights).

To Play:

You will need a flashlight. My girls both loves these glow stick type flashlights, while my husband and I both like mini maglite. Use whatever flashlight you have…it makes no difference to the game.

Pick one person to be ‘IT’ as well as a location for this person to stand with closed eyes and count slowly to 10. While the person who is ‘IT’ is counting, everyone else will run and find a place to hide.

After counting to 10, it is time to seek for the hidden players. Use your flashlight to try to find them.

When the flashlight beam of light hits a player, they are found. The first person to be found will be ‘IT’ for the next round of the game.

As you can see it is very much like regular hide and seek, only you are playing after dark (or beginning at dusk like we did).

We enjoyed our game of flashlight hide and seek.
I will give you the tip that if your yard is like mine and doesn’t have very many hiding places, this game may not last very long.
I didn’t want my kids running around the neighborhood in the dark and our front yard is too sloped for running around, so we stuck to our back yard which has just a few hiding places. We probably played for 20 minutes (after all the ‘play’ for these blog pictures). We did have fun and enjoy the game, as well as get eaten by mosquitos. It just wasn’t a super long game. Could be good or bad depending on what you need/want.

Once we got bored with the same hiding places, our nutty sides came out. We also talked about trying flashlight tag, which if you had a larger area, might work and be fun. In our yard, I just don’t think it would work.
I want to make sure to give credit to Snowflake. This game was all her idea. Thanks for the fun game idea, sweetie! The whole family enjoyed playing your game.

Do you have any other fun flashlight games or games to play in the dark with the whole family?

More to Enjoy! 😍

when I was young we used the flashlights as microphones and sang karaoke in the dark… it was lots of fun too. But we used the 45’s and a record player.

We have mosquito’s every night! Boo! My girls and I seem to be quite sweet, because we get eaten A LOT! Oh well, we still had fun.
