Fall is definitely here where we live. We live on a lot with quite a few trees. We have to make lemonade from lemons in the fall because we have a LOT of leaves that fall in our yard. We figured, why not turn it into a great family fun event. My girls look forward to this every year!

All you need for this family fun are leaves, your family (and another family or two if you like), s’mores fixing and the desire to have fun! Sound pretty easy right? It is and it is lots of fun too. I want to show you what we do for our Leaves and s’mores family fun and give you some ideas and tips to make your family fun event just as fun. You ready for some fall family fun?

The first thing you need to do for your leaves and s’mores family fun event is to rake the leaves into a large pile. You can also use a leaf blower to easily get them all into a large pile.

While we are looking at this picture, I highly recommend that your kids dress in pants and wear closed toed, closed heeled shoes that tie or Velcro shut. My girls are not dressed appropriately for this fun. Hmmm…I might have wanted to think that through before this night.

We have hosted these leaves & s’mores events a few times and we have had slip on shoes lost in the leaf pile. Tie on shoes are the best as they are the least likely to come off. We have also lost a cell phone in the pile and never could find it until the following spring. So, no cell phones while jumping is a good idea, too! 😉

Start your family fun late in the afternoon, but leave enough time that you will still have light for an hour or so. That way the kids can come up with all kinds of fun things to do in the leaf pile. It is handy to keep a rake out so that as they have fun and the pile loses its form, you can rake the leaves back into a large pile.
Our kids and our friends children had fun burying each other and diving into the pile. Can you spot the kids in each picture?

Don’t you love the leaves that stick to the hair? I know they aren’t quite the fashion statement, but they sure look cute.
Old clothes are another good idea for your leaves and s’mores party. It is easy to get dirty in a pile of leaves. We also leave an old sheet covering the floor by the door they everyone will use to enter the house following jumping in leaves. The sheet will catch most of the leaves that try to make their way into the house after they are done jumping in the leaf pile.

This year, the kids had fun coming up with different ways to jump and dive into the pile. Pretty impressive! and no one got hurt! They only had tons of fun. Yay!

Our beautiful friend M&M got a leaf stuck in her hair and she had lots of fun! She also enjoyed posing for the camera, which I was more than happy to oblige.

M&M and her little sister had fun posing for me and trying new things in the leaf pile. My camera and I were very happy! Isn’t this picture just great! I only wish I hadn’t cut M&M’s head off. Boo!

After an hour or so of jumping in leaves and letting me have fun photographing them, the kids had worked up a great appetite. We headed into the house for some tostadas, rice, and salad. I made some cute wraps for the jars the kids drank from and tags for the food because don’t you think that makes everything just a little more fun? I do.

After everyone had their fill of dinner, we headed back outside for some yummy s’mores. Of course it had gotten dark by this time which is the perfect time for a fire and s’mores. I found flat marshmallows this time that were perfect for s’mores. You may also be able to see in the picture above that I left the chocolate bars on the dryer, they kind of melted…but still tasted just fine.

Once we had the fire going, everyone got a turn to roast marshmallows. My daughter, Pumpkin, spent the night roasting marshmallows. She seemed to burn more than she actually roasted. Many got thrown away rather than eaten. All in all, we went through a whole bag of marshmallows, 6 chocolate bars, a lot of graham crackers and some hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Everyone had a great time.
Eventually the kids went off to play and the grown ups enjoyed sitting by the fire and chatting.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening and a ton of family fun. I highly recommend this activity for you and your family. It is an easy event to plan and put together. It is a time that you can enjoy your kids and family friends and enjoy a casual evening together. Doesn’t that sounds great?
Do you have any fall family traditions or activities you like to do?

it looks like it was a lovely party! burning marshmallow is also part of my skill, life is too short to patiently roast them!
    great pics of the girls.

Thanks, Morgane! We had a blast. I guess burning marshmallow is a good life skill…lol! She is funny because she is usually pretty patient with things, but apparently not marshmallows.
      Thanks for your sweet comment.

It is so much fun! If only the pile could be a bit larger…then the adults could have as much fun, too! 😉
