Do you remember the decorative pillows I made a earlier this year? I updated them again for the fall season. I wanted to show you my idea for some pretty fall decorative pillows.
So if you remember the tale of these pillows, I started with an IKEA hack to turn two pillows into three. Next up I made some simple envelope decorative pillows for spring. Over the summer, I made some cute burlap decorative pillow covers for these same pillows.
Now that fall has rolled around, I wanted to add a cover that would add a touch of fall to the living room. I thought of doing something similar to the summer pillows by adding an applique, but I decided against it. I wanted to keep it a bit more understated for fall. Let me show you what I came up with.
I started by picking out fabric. I knew I wanted something with texture. Fall just feels like a season that needs some texture. I guess to me, it reflects all the variety of textures going on in nature in the fall.
I found this gorgeous fabric at Jo Ann’s. I knew that it needed to come home with me. It was a lot more pricey than I would normally spend on fabric because it was one of the designer fabrics. I was able to use my Jo Ann’s coupon to get it for 40% off. Works for me!
I followed the same simple pattern that I showed you to make envelope covers for these decorative pillows. They are crazy easy to make and easy to change the pattern to the size of pillow form you have. I have all the directions in that post and since I’ve already shown that twice, I won’t rehash it here. Just know that if you can sew a straight line, you can make these pillows.
I’m loving having these inexpensive pillow forms that I can change out for the seasons. I think I will be making a pillow for Christmas…haven’t figured out what yet, but I’ve always thought it would be so fun to have Christmas pillows and I’ve never been able to justify the cost. Making them myself will make that fun idea a reality!
At some point, I have some great fabric that goes perfectly with my new living room decor. I need to make covers with it for these pillows. Though, I’m having such fun changing things for each season that maybe I should reconsider and recover different pillows instead. Maybe the gingham pillows you can see in the background above.
What do you think? Should I continue having fun changing the pillows for the seasons(and make covers for different pillows) or switch to fabric that matches my new living room on these pillows?

Like you said in your previous post, it’s nice to switch things up. I think you should keep making/switching out seasonal covers…everything you’ve made so far looks so good, especially these! Keep up the great work 🙂
Thanks so much Preston! I’m having fun with it, so I bet I will make something for Christmas. I’ve always wanted Christmas pillows….I think it is time I make some and enjoy! Thanks for your sweet comment. Take care.
I say continue having fun! The whole point of decorating is to create an environment you love…one that shows your personality. These pillows do just that! I totally {heart} the new fall covers you made!
Thanks Lisa! Yes, I need to have fun for sure. It amazes me that I’ve always wanted to do these things but never got around to it before blogging. Deadlines and needed posts do me a world of good. I get to do and make all these things I’ve dreamed of for a long time! 🙂
Another blogging benefit, for sure! 🙂
