Have you ever tried making homemade cheese crackers? We may possibly be addicted to cheese crackers at our house. Pretty much any form or any brand and we love them. We had never made them ourselves before, but I figured it would be fun to give a try. Now we can say, “We made it!”
Not only did my girls and I make them together, but we made them cute as well. I promised you I was going to find you and I a lot of great ideas to do with your kids this summer and this is another fun activity that is great for both kids and adults.
It is a cute kit that you can buy at Jo-Ann, who sponsored this post and sent me the We Made It kit. You can then make any recipe you want. We went for the cheese crackers because I was thinking about snacks for the car on the road trip we left on yesterday, but you could make cookies or even biscuits and stamp them on the top.
This is only one idea in my series of Real Summer of Fun activities. The activities are designed to be simple and inexpensive things we can do with our kids to make this a summer of real fun for everyone.
We used the Cookie Stamps kit to make our delicious cheddar cookies. It is part of the new We Made It creative kits by Jennifer Garner available exclusively at Jo-Ann. There are over 100 kits and projects that are perfect for the summer or anytime of the year. They are designed to help kids be imaginative and creative and guess what? You can learn more about the new We Made It by Jennifer Garner and win a $250 Jo-Ann Gift card!! Woot, woot! Just check out their Instagram sweepstakes.
We decided to use the cookie stamp kit, but rather than make cookies, we made crackers.
My girls loved the stamps, especially the colors. My oldest daughter, who loves to encourage and motivate people, now wants to start a business using these stamps and sell motivational snacks/desserts. 🙂
I have the printable cracker recipe for you at the bottom of this post. You will mix all the ingredients in a food processor.
My kids always love using the food processor….especially the pulse button.
Measuring and pouring are tough jobs…especially when you have your mom photographing you the whole time. 😉
Crackers like this are usually rolled out and cut apart, but I lack the patience for rolling dough out and cutting it apart. We tried my easy method and it worked great. Yay!
After you have made your dough, use your small scoop to scoop out crackers.
The small scoop is the perfect size to use with the cookie stamps. Just press down on the ball of dough.
Voila! Perfect cracker. You can leave the cracker like this or you can trim the rough edges off with a knife.
We made half of our crackers and trimmed them and the other half we left with the rough edges. They taste delicious either way.
We used a mix of sharp cheddar and a Gruyère/swiss shredded blend that we love.
These crackers are so cheesy and salty and delicious. Now if you don’t like them salty, just don’t add the course salt on top, but we were trying to simulate the store-bought yumminess, so we added the salt on top.
We are on our road trip now and my only concern about having made these to come with us is that I’m going to need to walk some extra steps because they are so good and so addictive I may eat too many while sitting and driving for hours on end. I’m ready to go get some more just from looking at the pictures. Yum!
They were also a great afternoon activity that I did with my two girls. We enjoyed a break from all the work that I was doing before we left on our road trip. They loved pressing the crackers and deciding which saying was going on which cracker. Of course taste testing wasn’t too shabby either. 🙂

Those look yummy. And cute with the stamped message. Six thousand mile road trip! Hope you made a few batches of crackers. Have fun.
Thanks! I’m glad I didn’t make a few batches…I can’t stop eating them. 🙂
The recipe looks yummy and it is a must try for my household. Quick question what kind of flour? Just all purpose or self rising? I hope your trip is fun.
I used unbleached white flour for this recipe. Hope that helps. Enjoy the yuminess!
