Do you and your family enjoy watching Christmas movies this time of year? It is one of my favorite things to do with my girls this time of year. There are so many great Christmas movies and I thought I would share our favorites with you today in case you needed some inspiration and a relaxing evening with your family this holiday season.
Like I said, we LOVE watching Christmas movies. We rarely watch TV on weeknights as a family, however the holiday season is a different story. In the past, we would watch a different movie or Christmas TV show almost every night. This year with my older daughter going to public school now, I’m not sure if we will get to watch as many movies since she has homework in the evenings now. I’m sure we will find a way to watch quite a few, but I bet this year a few will get missed. 🙁
Anyway, this is such a fun tradition and there are so many great Christmas movies. It is so nice to relax together with the family at the end of a cold and busy day and watch a Christmas movie or show. If you want to amp your movie night up, I did a post a while back with some cute printables for a family movie night and I also have a cute movie night gift idea if you need a cute family gift idea.
So without further ado, here are 10 (plus a few bonus movies) of our favorite Christmas movies.
1. Home Alone(affiliate link)
We love Home Alone! It is such a great movie that the whole family enjoys and laughs through.
2. Home Alone 2(affiliate link)
If you are going to watch the first movie, the 2nd movie is a great follow-up. I would skip the 3rd movie because it just isn’t as good.
3. The Santa Clause(affiliate link)
This series is an all time favorite. We usually watch this movie while we decorate our tree. It starts off our holiday movie season. 🙂
4. Santa Clause 2(affiliate link)
We love this whole series. They are fun movies!
5. The Santa Clause 3 – The Escape Clause(affiliate link)
If you have younger sensitive kids, this movie may not be the best. We love it now, but when they were younger neither of my girls liked this movie. They didn’t like Jack Frost and found it a little scary or bothersome.
6. The Polar Express(affiliate link) – Link to my Christmas Express Post
This is another movie that we like now (my kids are now almost 13 and 8) but we couldn’t watch when they were younger. They found it too dark (as in the movie scenes are dark) and didn’t like the scenes with the wolves, etc. My kids are admittedly like their mother and don’t like anything remotely scary. If your kids are younger or like that, then skip this movie until they are older. My 8-year-old was 7 last year and just barely got into this one…still not totally there, but it is a great movie.
You can tie into this movie with a fun family activity. We have done our Christmas Express every year for at least 3 or 4 years now and always have a fantastic time! It is a super fun family tradition you should give a try.
7. Miracle on 34th Street(affiliate link)
I love this movie and I’m partial to the version that I linked to, but any of the versions are good. It is a longer movie, so it might be best saved for a Friday or Saturday night. You can’t beat this movie for the feel good Christmas spirit!
8. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas(affiliate link)
Need I say more? Fun movie and Christmas classic in the new modern form.
9. The Flight Before Christmas(affiliate link)
This is a movie that you may not have heard of, but we have watched in the last 2 years and really love it. Such a cute animated movie that everyone enjoys. There are a few scenes that younger sensitive kids may want you to fast forward through, but generally you should be OK with this one.
10. Prep & Landing(affiliate link)
This has to be another of our all time favorite movies/Christmas shows. I think it is only 30 minutes long, but so stinkin cute about Santa’s prep team. The link above is for both this movie and the one listed below.
11. Prep & Landing Naughty Vs. Nice
This is the 2nd movie and ties in with the movie above. The link above, will take you to a set that has both movies.
12. Little Brother Big Trouble: A Christmas Adventure(affiliate link)
This movie is a follow up movie to The Flight Before Christmas. We haven’t seen it yet, but it had good reviews on Amazon and since we like the first movie so much, I decided to share it with you as well as a bonus movie. If you give it a watch or have seen it, let me know what you think.
I could totally go on with Christmas movies. There are some cute ones that involve dogs that we watch each year as well, like the three Christmas movies in the Santa Buddies series. Those are (affiliate links) Santa Buddies, The Search For Santa Paws and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups. For the life of me I can’t remember right now, but there is an order to watch those because I’m pretty sure one of them is a prequel. They are cute movies. The Search for Santa Paws has a scene involving a stuffed animal and an incinerator that my kids couldn’t stand to watch when they were younger, we fast forwarded through that part…just to let you know.
I could totally keep going sharing more great movies with you, but I need to stop and move on to other things on my list today. 🙂
I hope you enjoy a Christmas movie and some time with your family this holiday season. What is your favorite family Christmas movie?
