I’ve got a simple and easy way to save you money in the kitchen today. It is a taco seasoning recipe.

I love recipes to make my own seasoning and save a ton of money. This is a recipe to make your own taco seasoning. It is inexpensive, natural and easy too!

You know the packets of taco seasoning you can buy at the store? They cost a few bucks each. You can actually make that mix yourself. It will save you money and you will also know exactly what is in your mix. That is my favorite part. There are no preservatives or added ingredients, like MSG, that I don’t want in our diet.

I love recipes to make my own seasoning and save a ton of money. This is a recipe to make your own taco seasoning. It is inexpensive, natural and easy too! This is so quick and easy.  To make your own taco seasoning, you will need:

  • empty spice jar (affiliate link), flour, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, sugar, cumin, oregano

All you have to do is put the correct amounts into a blender or food processor(I have all of that in the printable recipe just below) and pulse for 5 – 1-second pulses. Make sure you don’t over blend or your seasoning will be too powdery. Once you are done, place the mix in an airtight container. It will last for up to 6 months.

When a recipe calls for taco seasoning, use 3 tablespoons of this mix in place of the store-bought package. I use it in my Crock-pot Tostadas and the Taco Pizza we make (among other things), which are so delish!

It is a really tasty version as well. We love the flavor.

Love this! I’m so tired of using the boxed dinners with a ton of MSG and poor quality tortillas. Will be mixing some of this up this weekend. Do you know of a good place to purchase some new glass spice bottles? I don’t have any empty ones.

Yay! Glad you like it! I would suggest that if you have an IKEA near you, try that. I’m pretty sure they sell some empty bottles. Otherwise, I’m not really sure. You could always go to the spice aisle and buy the least expensive one in a glass jar. It might be more pricey than finding them another way, but it would be immediate gratification. πŸ˜‰

I love this idea! I usually use buy the big mix from Costco but it has so much sodium in it! This looks like a much healthier version!

Oh, I hadn’t seen the mix from Costco. Sounds like a great idea except for the sodium. I bet this version would reduce the sodium by a lot. Hope it helps!

Can you do without the flour? Is is used as a thickening agent?

I honestly have no idea. I don’t see why you couldn’t do without it because in making tacos you don’t really need a thickening agent, which would be the main reason for the flour. In a few other recipes I use this in, the flour is helpful. So, I guess it depends on what you are using it for. Do you have a gluten allergy?

Thanks for getting back to me! I do not have a gluten allergy, just wondering if the flour was needed. I do like the idea of it making a little bit more of a thicker sauce to really glaze the meat with the seasoning, can’t wait to try it!

Your welcome! See…that is what I think. I modified the recipe so I didn’t come up with it originally, but I think the flour would help the spices really coat the meat and help the seasoning really stick to the meat or glaze it as you said. Any which way, it is delicious! Enjoy!

I’ve been using your taco seasoning recipe for years and typically multiply it to make a good amount for a while. However this time I come to to your site I find the recipe gone and now I have to sign up to get access to the recipe. Ok. Fine. I guess the clicks weren’t enough. So I signed up, and STILL can’t find the recipe. If you want to limit access to your recipes, that’s your prerogative however having a site that has been such a resource in the past make me jump through hoops I can’t even navigate is beyond frustrating!

I’m so sorry for the frustration and all the wasted time. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed this recipe for years! I love hearing that!
I’ve had some issues with some coding on my site and it has caused some of these to disappear, leading to your frustration. I know it had to be super annoying to not find the recipe. I appreciate you letting me know because, with over 800 blog posts, I’m using comments as the easiest way to find the posts that things aren’t working like they should. Unfortunately, that means people are getting frustrated. ?
At any rate, I believe I just fixed the issue with this post. You should be able to get the recipe now. I would really appreciate your help by testing if it is showing up and working now. If you’d be willing to come back to the post and sign into the box. Then wait for that box to change to a different graphic that says click here for your recipe. If you can’t see any of that, please let me know so I can try something else to get it fixed. Either way, I’ll make sure you get the recipe. Again, I’m so sorry for the waste of your time and the frustration!
      Take care,
      KC
