Real O.C.D. (Organizing, Camp, and Disappointment)
A look inside the Week of a homeschool family with some organizing ideas.Oh by the way, if you like the calendar above. It is my new calendar! I LOVE it. You can read more and buy yours in my new post about having a real organized calendar or click here to buy it in my shop.

This week we were on a break from our schoolwork.

Organizing
We spent some of our week organizing and getting rid of things we no longer need. Our theme this week was to keep the things we love, get rid of the things we only like and to make room to grow. Pumpkin has a birthday in October, then we have Christmas and in January Snowflake has a birthday. I usually try to do some kind of big clean up before Halloween or Thanksgiving. This week was the week. We wanted to make room for all the fun things that will come into our house in the next 5 months!

We organized our playroom as well as our craft area. Tune in early next week for another post about our playroom. For now, here are some pictures of my smaller organization project: our kid’s craft area.  It had gotten really bad, as a lot of things have since I have been injured for 9 months now. You can read about that in my blog post: I did yoga today – Hip Hip Hooray!  Now that I am closer to my ‘normal.’ I am trying to get my house back to my ‘normal’ as well. It feels really great, I really don’t like being disorganized and looking around to see mess and too much stuff.

In our ‘Office’ (read formal dining room that has no purpose IMO, so we use it as an office) we have a bookcase that a few of the shelves house all the girls craft supplies. They also have a small kid sized table to sit at and do crafts.

Here is the bookcase before:

Doesn’t really inspire me to do anything but run away! 🙂
A look inside the Week of a homeschool family with some organizing ideas.I pulled everything out of those shelves and sorted through all of it. Yes, all of it. I looked through every coloring book and pulled out the used pages. The girls went through and choose the things of which they were tired. I sorted and sorted and sorted some more. I even went through all the crayons, markers, and colored pencils. We had a drawer that was filled to overfilling with those things. I decided to seriously eliminate. The result is just what I wanted!

Here is the result of all that sorting:

I was able to change the shelves. On the close up below you can see that the top left shelf holds Snowflake’s craft supplies that are just hers (and if her sister touches them…well I’m not sure what kind of mayhem will ensue). She already finished 1 craft and added it as decoration.
The bottom right shelf holds Pumpkins special craft supplies that are just for her (and likewise Snowflake shouldn’t touch them). The other 2 shelves are joint supplies…yay…anyone can touch those shelves and there will be no mayhem!

Here are some of the items up close:

All those crayons, colored pencils and a few markers I sorted. This picture is so I can prove that it once looked super organized! (Not that I expect it to stay this way or that I even really care, but doesn’t it look nice!)

Next drawer up, contains their stamps, glitter glue and a container with gems and jewels.

Next drawer up holds all of their stencils and things that go with this cool geared thing that makes patterns on the paper. I can’t remember what it is called.

Much neater than anything I have tried thus far. We had a major incident recently with Pumpkin using some of Snowflakes ‘special’ stickers that were in this box. They had been there for what seemed like forever, but apparently they were being saved…::sigh::. So, I now have a bag with each girls name on it in the box that they can put special stickers in and they won’t get used. Whew….one more crisis averted!

Finally, this is something new I am trying. My girls go through construction paper like water. It seems to be one of the messiest parts of the shelf. They put little pieces or 1/2 used pieces back in the shelf and it just becomes a big mess. I bought this folder for $1 at Target. It is a lot like this c-line 7 pocket expanding file (affiliate link), which is even better than mine because it is biodegradable. I’m hoping that we can keep all the paper and such in here and it won’t create such the big mess. We shall see.

Camp
This week Snowflake was at a Girl Scout camp. It was every afternoon/evening. She had such a great time. This was her first experience as a Junior Girl Scout! She got to earn 5 badges, try archery, canoeing, go swimming, make all kinds of crafts and swaps, and have tons of fun. Here is one of the coolest crafts she brought home. This is a Chinese lantern decorated with cupcake liners. Too cute! Maybe I will copy this idea as a decoration for my 40th birthday party!

Friends, new and old!

Disappointment
It was our week off from school. I have been counting down and looking forward to the break. I had a list about a mile long of everything I wanted to get done. No, the list wasn’t realistic, but still I had my list. I got maybe about half of it done. Maybe I shouldn’t be disappointed, but I am. I really wanted/needed to get more done. Oh and find  a little time to relax and maybe scrapbook…Oh well.

Pumpkin and I also both had colds and while I am trying to be glad it happened this week rather than a school week, still it happened this week, my week off! Boo!

Don’t “things” just take over after a while? We’ve been decluttering here as well! I’ve run out of steam though and didn’t tackle any new rooms or closets this past week. I have a GREAT start though! LOL

‘Things’ sure do take over when you have kids! I am a neat/organized person. So, the past 9 months of injury and letting go have been a struggle. Had to say “Oh Well’ a lot!

I have my big (make it HUGE) list of things needed to be done and afraid to start, simply because I will not be able to finish as much as I would like. So I feel your pain! LOL!
Love the signed t-shirt, something to always remember!

Well, maybe I can inspire you to get started, even if you know you can’t finish it all. It does feel good that I got a bunch of it done and that my house is slightly more organized! You should go for it! (Am I sort of encouraging? Hope so!) Enjoy your week.
