Have you ever made homemade pita chips? They are crazy easy to make and in my opinion they taste even better than the store-bought pita chips. In fact, I find these rather addictive and therefore don’t make them very often…or I would be as round pita bread. 😉
As you may know if you’ve read a recipe or two of mine, I love eating as natural and organic as I can on our grocery budget. To accomplish this I make some things that I could buy(like my taco seasoning recipe). It saves me money and at the same time I know exactly what goes into our food. Pita chips are one of those things.
We love the pita chips you can buy at the store and I do buy them occasionally. They are just so expensive for our budget. For the price of a package of pita bread, which is around $2 at Trader Joe’s, I can make what would be in a small bag of pita chips AND I can make them any flavor I like. It takes around 20 minutes to make and bam…yumminess! Works for me…how about you?
Let me show you how easy these are to make.
Cut your pita bread into 8 wedges and separate.
Place the pita wedges on a rimmed baking sheet with the bumpy side facing up. You will need at least 2 trays so you can lay them out without any overlap.
I usually have to use the trays again to get all 4 pieces of pita bread cooked.
Brush lightly with olive oil and season with salt. The salt is what makes them so yummy…so says the salt addict. Use a kosher or seas salt as they have larger granules than table salt and will give you a little bit more flavor. If you don’t have either of those, table salt works just fine.
If you want to add a flavor to your chips, this is the time. I’ve tried shredded Parmesan cheese as well as cinnamon sugar. Both are delish! Since I’m a total cheese addict, I go for the cheese any day. 🙂
Bake them up according to the recipe and enjoy. They are fantastic as is and pair really well with all kinds of dips.
We love humus with our pita chips. I love that the humus gets something healthy into my kids on top of the pita chip
The pita chips don’t usually last long around our house, but if needed I store them in a cereal storage container(affiliate link) so they stay fresh.

I save a lot of money by making the pita chips myself. Truthfully, it is easier to just pick up a bag of pita chips, but these actually taste better and save me money. That is a win, win in my book. Not only that but I know exactly what is in them. Love that!
