Fall Craft – Make Cute Felt Coasters

I’ve got a quick and easy craft for you today. This is a 30 minute craft. I came up with a cute idea to make coasters for fall. They are made out of felt and make an easy way to add a little fall decor with some whimsy to your house. Perfect!

For those of you who follow me on Facebook, you may have seen that in the last week, I went from homeschooling both of my girls to having one at home and one at our local public middle school. It has been a good change and it has also totally thrown off my work schedule along with pretty much the rest of my organized life. LOL! I’m slowly figuring out this new  routine/life. This whole change-up is why you didn’t see any posts from me on Monday and Wednesday like you would normally see. I just needed to take a step back and slowly get adjusted instead of trying to push through and kill myself to get it done. I think it was the best choice for me and my family. It was great to be available to hear all that went on and go to my first Back to School night EVER. Oh and deal with ALL that paperwork. Holy paperwork….there is a lot of it!

Anyway, I had a chance to make a quick and easy fall craft that I think turned out cute. I made these felt acorn coasters. I think they are just a fun whimsical touch to have around the house during the fall. They took me maybe 30 minutes to make…including most of the photography. Perfect! I’ve got the full tutorial along with a template for you to download to make your own, so let’s get going!

Craft Supplies:

  • Felt in fall colors(affiliate link)
  • Template
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue Gun
  • Hot glue sticks

The template I’m giving you is for a standard glass size. If you have large glasses, use mason jars or large mugs, you will want to enlarge your template to fit your glass/mug size.

Start by cutting out the pieces of your coaster in the colors of felt you selected. You will need three pieces of felt for each coaster, an acorn top and bottom along with a circle for the back.

After you have cut out your pieces, run a thin line of hot glue along the top edge of the back of your acorn bottom.

Apply the acorn top to the bottom. Try your best to keep the line of hot glue thin and very close to the edge. The less the top and bottom overlap the less chance of a glass sitting wonky and not flat on your coaster. The circle for the back is also sized to fit with only a small overlap between the top and bottom of the acorn. If you do a larger overlap, you will need to size down your circle.

Last step….yep… I already said last step. Apply a thin layer of hot glue to the circle and add it to the back of your coaster. Again, try to thin or smooth out your layer of hot glue or it will add bulk to the coaster. It is probably just a pet peeve of mine, but I don’t like it when the hot glue dries and you can see exactly where it is and it adds bulk to the craft. If you don’t care about such things, then don’t worry about it.

Guess what? You are already done. See, that was crazy easy!

You can have fun with the colors and combinations of your felt acorns. Some look better than others, but my family doesn’t seem to care. They really like them and have been using them since I made them.

In full disclosure, I have no idea if the felt is color safe. Please be careful with where you place the coasters so furniture doesn’t get stained or ruined. If you know if felt is color safe, please leave a comment to help the rest of us out. Thanks!

Cuteness! I think the coasters might be slightly cheesy and yet I like them and I smile when I see them. So I will call them whimsical instead! 😀 They were so crazy easy to make. I enjoyed that as well!

Last year I made some cute glitter pumpkins that were another quick and easy fall DIY craft. I bet you’d love those as well.

These are too cute! I have recently been using more felt for home decorations and love this! I will be making some in the next day or so!
